HELP! I have a borrowing question

I am confused about what Member services told me on the phone and what I thought the borrowing policy was, so could someone sort it out for me?
We have a June use year. In 2000 I banked our 220 points. Today I called and reserved on the DCL for November 2001 using points. The total was 633 points. So that would be 220 from 2000, 220 from 2001 and 193 from 2002.

We wanted to add a few days at OKW after the cruise and I was told that I only had 27 points and not enough to book at OKW. I thought that you could borrow 300% of your points. Since I had 220 points banked and could borrow, I thought I would have 880 points to work with. Am I wrong about that?

When June rolls around will I then be able to borrow the 137 points from 2003 I need for the OKW stay?

The most you can have is 3x your points. This would be by banking and borrowing and using your current points. You can use 3 years worth of points under this scenario. You can't "borrow" three years worth of points.

You banked your 220 June 2000 points into 2001.

Between June 1, 2001 and May 31, 2002 you could take a trip using those points, your current points and borrowing your points from 2002 for a grand total of 660. Your cruise will use 633 so it's correct that you'll have 27 points left. You won't have any more points to use for a November 2001 trip.

You will not have any additional points available until your June 2003 allotment. You could borrow these back into 2002 for a trip between June 1, 2002 and May 31, 2003.

You only have 3 active use years at a time. So, you have 2000/2001/2002 points that you can work with this year by banking 2000 pts and borrowing up to 100% of 2002 pts. You have used all of the 2000 pts and all of the 2001 points and all but 27 points in 2002, so MS is correct.

You can have a TOTAL of 300% of your points available; last year's (if banked), current year's, and next year's (borrowed). You can never move points more than 1 year ahead or back, and once moved (by banking or borrowing), they cannot be returned to the year they came from and must be used in the year they were moved to. So you do only have 27 points left until June 2002 when you could borrow from your June 2003 points. Looks like you need to buy more!

gn2wdw, there was a similar post recently that I replied to with an example that helped clear it up. I think you've got it now, but just in case, and for any other newbies with questions, it's easier to look at it this way. I'll use your June use year as an example.

Do NOT think of the fiscal calendar year Jan-Dec as this will only confuse you.

In your case, think of June 1st as your Jan 1st, and think of May 31 as your Dec 31st. Thus your years are as follows, and you receive your new allotment of 220 points for each year:

2000.....Jun 1, 2000 thru May 31, 2001
2001.....Jun 1, 2001 thru May 31, 2002
2002.....Jun 1, 2002 thru May 31, 2003
2003.....Jun 1, 2003 thru May 31, 2004
2004.....Jun 1, 2004 thru May 31, 2005
etc.

You can bank any year's points to the following year, or borrow any year's points into the proceeding year. Thus for your Nov 2001 cruise which is in your actual 2001 use year (6/1/01-5/31/02) you used your banked 2000 year points (220), all of your 2001 points (220) and borrowed 193 of your 2002 year points, leaving 27 points for 2002.

These 27 points can be 'borrowed' and used anytime in your 2001 year (6/1/01-5/31/02), left in their own 2002 year and used then (6/1/02-5/31/03), or banked and used with the next allotment you will get for your 2003 year and have 247 points to use that year (6/1/03-5/31/04)

For anyone else with a different use year, simply change the months in the chart above and you'll see how it works for you.
