Help I can't read threads because of ads

For the last few days when I click a thread to read I am automatically scrolled to the bottom of the page to a video ad. I scroll back up to the post and read for a few seconds then it abruptly scrolls back down to the ad. No matter how many times I try to scroll back up it happens continually. Why is this starting now? This is obnoxious.

I had big problems with Flash issues on the DIS on this particular computer for a long time. It made the site virtually unusable when using our kitchen laptop. Then I installed an ad blocker extension. No more issues, so it was obviously the Flash in one or more of the ads. It's currently blocking 6 ads just on this page.

Yes, I am using the Ad blocker for Google also on my PC, maybe that's why I don't have trouble?

I'm using Safari on my Mac and Chrome on my PC, no ad blockers. Have never seen this on either computer.

Another vote for AdBlocker Plus.

I'm using Safari on my Mac and yes, it's a flash player that's causing the issues. I'll start using the ad blocker. Have a great day!

Sad though--this should not happen no matter what Browser you use. NONE of the other sites I am on have this problem and a shame that you need to add or disable programs just to navigate DisBoards.

Flash-based ads are the worst. And when there's sound as well, it's just too much. I also use an ad blocker, but I whitelist the sites that aren't too intrusive. FOX and CNN have gone insane with their embedded ads/videos, so they're blocked, but most sites are fine.

Yep I was having problems also until I downloaded a ad blocker maybe a month ago because a thread like this came up. This thread should be on the community board.

I had to get an adblocker, too. I was really sad that this was necessary. I love having the DIS and I am willing to "pay" for it by letting ads pop up. But it got to the point of constant issues and the question was of stopping to use the DIS or getting the adblocking software.

No, on the tech support board. But it seems that that is a board where threads go to die. Unfortunately there is no real support to be found there. It seems that the website admins don't really read there anyway. This whole issue of the boards being so slow has been going on for a long time now and there is no improvement at all.

I'm on a Mac too and had this problem a few weeks ago. Using an ad blocker definitely helps.
