Yes, I'm new to this and yes I thought I had it all figured out. So.....I booked BWV for this summer. I needed to borrow 63 pts. from next year. No big deal. Well, dh just called and told me we had to change our arrival day. So, I call MS and change to the following day. No problem. I don't mind not having to use those Sat pts. So, MS tells me that they'll bank those 53 pts. I say, yeah but they were borrowed. MS takes a deep breath and says..Yes, but they can't be returned. So, we're banking pts. you didn't use. I didn't want to sound like more of a dummy than I am, so I came here to get it explained. I have 150 pts. I need 213, so I borrow 63 from next year. (use year June btw). Now, change needs 162 pts. So, if I figure it right....they take the total of 213 pts. (150+63), then subtract the 162 I actually need. Leaves me with 138 pts. for yr. 2005. Please let me know if I figured this correctly. Now I know what to tell my dd when she asks me why she has to study her math!!!!

The points that were borrowed are still borrowed. However, I believe she gave you back the 63 points from your current UY. So, those points will need to be banked under the 50% deadline for your June UY.

So, for your next ressies you will have banked and current points to use. The total points should come out the same, but the banked points will need to be used first.

I hope I got this right! If, not someone else can jump in. I also hope I explained it logically.

Sounds exactly right. I also assumed that points that she cancelled were not your borrowed points but your current year points so that they can be banked and you won't loose them. You just have to make sure to use those banked points next year.

Thanks. That's what I thought. I did tell her to bank them. They will be used for sure!!!

Yes, BORROWED points cannot be put back into the use year taken from if a reservation is changed or BANKED. They remain in the year borrowed and they MUST be used before the year end in which they were borrowed or be lost. The person at MS kept the borrowed points you used for this reservation in the original reservation since you didn't cancel the whole trip, this saves you from getting the 63 borrowed points put into the "bank or / use or lose" borrowed year . The one day you removed from the reservation "returned" 53 points to your June 2003 - June 2004 use year which you can bank just like rsschneck said, especially if you have no plans to use them before June 2004.

1 - June 2003 - 150 points
2 - June 2004 - 87 points (150 minus 63 points)
3 - June 2003 - 213 points (total)
4 - June 2003 - 53 points (new reservation returns 53 points)

Now at this point you have in each use year

June 2003 has 53 points that you must bank before February 28th 2004 or use before June 2004.

June 2004 has only 87 points in it right now. If you do bank the 53 points you have right now, you would have 140 points to use for June 2004 - June 2005 use year.

*Corrected*

Holding account only comes into play for reservations changed or cancelled 30 days or less before arrival. Holding account points can only be reserved within 60 days before arrival. Since their reservation is for next summer, holding account does not come into play in this case because the change was made more than 30 days before arrival. Yes, the borrowed points would have had to be used by the end of the use year but that is not what a holding account is.

Just to clarify here...we're talking about UY '04. I have (had) 150 starting this coming June. I borrowed from June '05. Now I assume (knowing what happens when you assume something) that I'll have 138 pts. for June '05. Hmmmm....maybe a longer stay at VB that summer would be in order.
