help - how to tone down bright clothes

I have a few pairs of capri's that the colors are so bright, I never wear them. I'd love to tone down the colors and make them look more 'worn'. They're brand new, so besides washing them 100 times, can I do anything to them?

I googled of course, read about coffee and tea dying, but I'm not crafty at all, so thought I'd ask here before trying anything.

I found this online...not sure if it will work or if you've seen it.

First wash using warm water and abrasive laundry detergent (such as a powder instead of a liquid). Stop the washing machine mid-cycle and soak your jeans for two hours, then hang them in the sun to fade while drying naturally.
