Ok, so I'm having my family over for a late Christmas tomorrow and I said I would do ham. However, I have NO idea what I am doing! I bought a precooked butt half ham. I'd like to dress it up a bit when I heat it up, but have no idea what to do with it, or even how long to heat it for.
Thanks for your help!! :lovestruc

I take pineapple rings and using toothpics attach all over the ham. I then take marachino cherries and attach all over the ham including inside each pineapple ring with toothpics. I mix the pineapple juice, some cherry juice with some brown sugar and a bit of clove powder and pour over the ham. I then cover with foil while heating in the oven the last hour I remove the foil and baste with the juices. It is so good. The kids usually all want the fruit which is removed prior to carving and placed in a side bowl on the table. :):thumbsup2

Before putting anything on it score the ham with a cross hatch pattern so that whatever you put on it gets down inside the ham and doesn't just sit on top of the fat cap. Ham takes a long time to get to temp in the center so go ahead and sit the ham on the counter (out of packaging, but in the pan) so it can get to room temp. Ham can be served at room temp since you already buy it fully cook and what I do is make a thick glaze and then throw it in a 500 degree oven for 15 minutes to let the glaze crack and get crusty. I make the glaze with brown sugar, a little orange juice, cinnamon, cloves and anything else that sounds yummy. Reduce over the heat in a small sauce pan then drizzle over the top.

If you are bound and determined to serve a warm ham then start with the ham covered so you don't lose the juicy interior with a can of doctor pepper in the bottom, then kick it up at the end uncovered with the glaze.

I just baked a ham today (Cook's Shank half) It was 11.30 pounds and the label said to cook 20 to 25 minutes per pound at 325. I baked it for 4 hours and it was yum! I didn't baste it or cover it as I didn't know about that but it still came out juicy. Didn't have the pineapple boo LOL
Now we have leftover for another ham meal, split pea soup, sandwiches and pasta with ham.

I use a glaze handed down from my great grandma, coke crushed pinapples and cloves. cooke these 3 in a saucepan on the stove. rub the hame down with crushed cloves and bake for about 15 mins then pour glaze over the ham cover with foil and bake accordingly. it has an excellent flavor
