Help! How does Priceline work for those who use it??

I've been browsing around the site, and I would like to bid on a hotel but I'm lost!!
Do you have to bid on an area and star rating and hope you get a hotel you'll like? You can't cancel it or preview before committing to the deal?

That's correct. You won't see the hotel you get until you have entered in your credit card info. And you cannot cancel it. I've tried.
