I am 8 weeks pregnant and we are heading to Disney in 34 days. Staying at AKL for 8 days.

My morning sickness is horrible, I was sick with my DD, but nothing compared to this. I am already on anti nauseas and the dose has been raised once already. Nothing works.

I know that a lot of people have done disney pregnant and I am looking for some tips so that I am not
a) miserable the whole time
b) missing everything because I am too sick to leave the hotel (although it is a nice hotel)

Please help, thanks

I have been pregnant twice in the past 4 years and had what I call morning/noon/and night sickness! I hate the term "morning sickness" as mine had no sense of time limit...sounds like maybe you are the same? I suffered through much of my first pregnancy thinking it was just something that you had to live through and it is genetic in my family so I figured I was just going to have to deal. I had it 7 of the 9 months of my pregnancy. In my second pregnancy I had a new doc and worked very closely with him. I lost about 10 pounds the week after I realized I was pregnant because I was so sick. Doc had me take a few different meds (all of which were safe for the wee one) until we found the one that worked best. I ended up taking a prescription strength pepcid for my whole pregnancy and another anti-nausea (can't remeber the name but it was something my doc gave right away) when it was bad. My second pregnancy was much more enjoyable than the first because of the meds and i recommend that you work very closely with your dr. until you find what works for you. I also have friends who swear ginger works...didn't for me but you might want to try. I tried ginger gum, ginger pops and entire ginger capsules...did nothing for me...i know it has worked for others. My main problem was actually that a form of reflux was starting the whole chain reaction so the pepcid kept that under control. You might want to start there. Good luck!

I don't have any advice about doing the parks with morning sickness. I had bad ms, too, and am nervous for the next go-around!

I just wanted to offer you a word of hope that since you'll be past 12 weeks then, maybe it will stop/lesson for you. I truly hope so for you!!

You've probably tried these already, but just in case...what helped me the most was to stay *really* hydrated (for some reason I was able to keep seltzer water down pretty well) and keep protein in my system. Also, the smell of citrus seemed to ease my nausea for a while. I would actually carry a lemon in my purse and sniff it when needed - looked like a dork, but didn't puke!

I was a lucky one...no morning sickness....I did see an ad in a parenting magazine for ginger altoids for morning sickness, and was interested in getting some for my motion sickness I get on the rides, but have not found any yet

Well, mabye you'll get lucky and it will be getting better by then! I recently found out I was pregnant as well (I'm 5.5 weeks) and I will be 10.5 weeks when we go.. I usually get VERY VERY sick.. (when I don't m/c) so I'm a bit worried about our disney trip timing as well!

I was sick for 7 months like the PP said with my second pregnancy. I took a prescription called Zofran and it really helped, but I was still needing to rest a lot and had to be careful to keep hydrated. I don't think I could have done WDW, but I was on the verge of hospitalization because I could keep very little down and dehydration was a real fear. I hope you are feeling better soon!

I had to use suppositories because I couldn't keep the meds down long enough to work. Maybe this is your problem as well?

Sorry I know it's gross.

When I was pregnant and did not know that I was (for a while) I did experience nausea but no vomiting. Saltines, citrus flavored drinks helped. and very small frequent meals. A friend of time had terrible all day morning sickness and would have her husband bring her semi-frozen apple juice. She would drink this right after she woke and did not get out of bed right away. She actually bought the small serving sizes that you find in the hospital from Sams Club/Costco. Appartently blood sugar fluctuations can contribute to vomiting during pregnancy.

sour patch kids!! I really dont know why but that candy was a LIFE saver for me!! (at least with #3!) once i got a few of those down..i felt okay... then I could eat actual food! Good Luck I've never been on vacation with M/S I hope the excitment of the trip makes you forget all about it (yes i know its a LOOOONNNNGGG shot )

Some of the things that helped (notice I didn't say worked) when I was pregnant were:
Peppermints (but I can't eat them anymore because of it)
Ginger Snaps
the smell of dryer sheets (who knows!)
herbal tea when I could keep it down.

I'm sorry you are going through this, it's terrible I know. The end result is worth it of course but it makes for a miserable time!

Hi. Peppermints worked for me as well. Although giving in to the nausea and just throwing up helped too. I would also keep a zip lock bag in case of emergency, and some baby wipes. I have been in the car driving and had to throw up, and yikes, thank goodness I had the bag, or I would have christened my new car. Try not to worry about it too much. If you do get stuck at the hotel, there are many things to see and do. Just stay away from the Flamingos, I don't think smelling them(yuck!!!) :sad2: will help your situation.

I have hyperemesis with this pregnancy and did with my 2nd child as well. With this one I have been able to control most of the nausea by taking 8mg of Zofran 3 times a day. Try to nibble something thru the day so your stomach doesn't get empty and go to the bathroom as soon as you feel you need to go. You can also get a prescription for Phenergan suppositories and use those along with the Zofran.

We made a trip to WDW when pregnant with my 2nd one and I stayed in bed the whole time while DH took our older daughter swimming and to the parks. I made a trip to WDW while pregnant with this one and with the help of Zofran and a wheelchair I was able to actually do the parks at a slow pace.

Avoid rides that jostle you like the safari and of course the roller coasters. The bumps going in and out of the load area at Small World were pretty uncomfortable too!

Good luck and CONGRATS!

I had horrible "all-day" sickness both pregnancies. The second time around was better, though--I had learned a few tricks:
--plenty of water or other liquids when you can keep it down
--really sour candy, lemonade, grapefruit (something about that sour taste--the doctor said that's fairly common) Chick-Fil-A's lemonade saved me more than once!
--NEVER let your stomach get completely empty if you can help it. Snack often, whether you feel like it or not. (helps with the nausea, plus if you do get sick, no dry heaving. . .)

Hope things go well--God bless you and the little one. It's all worth it in the end!

I'm 12 wks pg with #3 and heading to Disney next week. I'm also on anti nausea meds this time. They work, for the most part, but I do have breakthrough nausea where I feel I can barely move. Quite often, I've found forcing myself to eat something helps but not always. I also use sea bands. They're anti nausea bands for the wrists that put pressure on certain acupressure points. That's all I used for my 1st and 2nd pg (although I probably should have been on meds for my 2nd too but refused to take them). I actually ended up using them for the first time with the meds a few days ago and they helped a lot. I just packed mine for Disney just in case. You can get them at almost any luggage/travel store or pharmacy.

I was 12 weeks on our Dec 2005 trip and very ill. I was on meds but was still nauseous a lot of the day. I ate really bland food, (ordered Rice Crispies at Olivias, a grilled cheese at Kona Cafe) and a few times I did stay in the room while DH went out without me. If your DH is ok with that than take it easy when you need to and let him have some alone time.

I just saw you are in Canada are you taking Diclectin? If not I would ask your doc it was an absolute lifesaver for me.

I had all day sickness too. I tried having ginger ale and ginger flavored things but they ust gave me heartburn and mae me feel sicker.
A couple of things that helped-
Preggie pops (they make them in hard candy w/o the stick now so they fit in the purse)
As someone else mentioned- Sour Patch Kids (these even worked better than the preggy pops sometimes- I alternated them)
Coke- it was the only thing I could drink that didn't make me sick besides Orange Juice- I would have never gotten past the 1st 4 months w/o it.

What I did notice is that when I travelled, I tended to feel less sick. I don't know if it was just the change in scenery or the new stuff to see. So, while I would definitely go armed with all the non sick artillery, there is the chance that you'll feel better than being at home.

Wrigley's Spearmint gum!!1

Sorry you are so sick. I read a book once that talked about why our bodies get so sick with pregnancy. It's all to protect the baby from things that can harm it.(toxins in certain foods at certain developmental milestones.)...I tried to keep that in mind when I was very nauseous. It helped some.

I'm going to be 22 weeks when we go, but I'm worried b/c I am still feeling lousy at 15 weeks (but I think part of it was getting hit with a virus last week)

What REALLY helps for me though is a unisom tablet at night (recommended by my OB w/ my DD.) Not the gel tab kind (different active ingredient), the original. It really makes SUCH a difference - but the first few days, you are sleepy (since it is technially a sleepaid) - after that, your body gets used to it, so I would definately take it in advance of your trip. Heck, why suffer - start it now!

..... I would actually carry a lemon in my purse and sniff it when needed - looked like a dork, but didn't puke!

OMG I almost fell off my chair reading that!!!!!!! Oh where is the Tag Fairy?!!...that's classic!

To the OP: my first real trip to WDW occured when I was about 12 weeks along with my first. I had had awful "morning" sickness prior to that, but it did go away right around the third month (of course, then I was tired all the time, but hey, at least you can leave the bathroom!!). You may be in luck with your timing and be over it, or have it lessened. Other than that, as so many others have said, discuss it with your OB and see what they recommend.

Have fun!

I will pray that you make it to Disney Nausea Free!!

I agree witht eh frequent SMALL Meals. I felt like I was eating contantly with my last pregnancy, but it helped to keep the nausea a way.

I also had days when all I could eat was Table water crakers (Expensive, in the black boxes of the "Specialty" crackers) and frozen lemonade straight from the can!

Then I was able to hold that stuff down and would be able to drink room temp water and a few cubes of cheese.

Then 2nd trimester hit and I couldn't get enought to eat!! LOL!

Best of luck to you! Stay hydrated and cool!
