I washed my down pillows yesterday. I followed the directions which said to wash two to three at one time with warm water and gentle soap preferably in a front loading washer which I have. When they were done, they looked very clean, but they stink! How do I get rid of this smell? Did you have this problem? How do you clean your down pillows?

I've washed mine several times, and there was never a smell. What does it smell like? Can you try washing them again and maybe using a liquid fabric softener? I guess I'm not sure what you mean by "smell"...

Ack! :crazy2: I did that once too, not too long ago back in the Autumn, and I had the same problem! They smelled moldy or something, even though I dried them and dried them and dried them! They were perfectly dry yet came out of the dryer smelly! I washed two pillows at the same time. I sprayed one pillow with Fabreeze, put the pillow inside a flannel case, then put a regular cotton case on the pillow. After a day or two I didn't notice the smell anymore. I don't know about the second pillow. I put that one away and stole one of Will's pillows to use as my second pillow. LOL! :p I'm sorry I don't have any advice for you to help get the smell out, maybe someone else will know. I also noticed that the down is not as soft and the feathers are now poking through the pillow which never happened to any great extent before.

My advice to anyone is, DO NOT wash your down pillows, even if they are washable down, like Northern Nights. It was kind of like throwing money out the window, because down pillows are not cheap!

I hope someone comes along to help you cinmell.

Oh sorry! I must have been typing while Jill was posting. Okay, let me revise my advice: Wash your down pillows at your own risk, they may or may not come out smelly! :p LOL!

LOL Saffron, that's ok!

Are your pillows all down, or a down/feather mix? That might make a difference.
