I am looking to book a 2 day stay at Universal, and just realized our 2 days are both Holloween Horror Nights. We've never been to Universal, and have 2 elementary aged kids with us. Is it a mistake to do these 2 parks those days? I read that Halloween Horror Nights is not kid friendly like MNNSHP. Do I skip going to Universal? Help....

The Studios will close an hour early at 5pm on the nights HHN is staged but that's about all you need to worry about. I would go to the Studios in the morning...you should be able to do every you want and then head over to IOA...if you have park hoppers. IOA will be open until 7pm on the nights HHN is staged and HP is wonderful in the evenings.

nothing pertaining to hhn will happen in the days you are in the park.

many families do go during the time period like you have planned.

once the studios is closed down at 5:00, the evening hard ticket hhn begins at 6:30.

don't skip the visit to the parks.
go and have fun!

My son is 8, and saw the stuff that's left out throughout HHN-time last year when he was 7. He has strongly requested to NOT go again, during that time.

The "sets" they leave out really spooked him, and his imagination gets going and won't quit. His imagination has been in overdrive since that time, and while he didn't act like he was *too* nervous at the time, in memory he's too nervous to deal with it.

If they are sensitive to visually spooky stuff, even if that stuff is in the broad daylight with NOTHING going on that's spooky...it might be worth an extra thought about going at that time.

(in my memory there aren't that many places that appear to be nervous-making, but in his mind it's different...and honestly, his memory is often better than mine with that sort of thing)

there are some large props that are not covered.

the other props are covered during the daytime.

maybe it was the stage that was not covered last year that bumble's son saw?

i have been attending it for many years and can't think of which props were exposed last year.

i guess i get immuned to what is exposed during the daytime regarding the props that are set up.

some are large and unabled to be moved or totally covered up.

so yes, thinking back, there are some things related to hhn that will be seen while in the park during the daytime.

last few years the pumpkins hanging from the trees in ny central park section are viewable in the daytime.

Yeah, I remember the bats and ravens by the scare zone by Central Park and the stages by 7. And the props by Acid Assault. But they do not seem that scary without lighting and the rest of the special effects. I would say that there are less kids that get scared than more. What I mean is that I doubt that every little kid going is getting scared. Or else something would have been done already.

Weren't the large skulls uncovered in Canyon of Lost Souls last year as well?

That, mixed with the high black walls could be scary, I suppose.

They were, and they were very imposing, even in the daylight. But I think they did cover up the skeletal remains mounted on the flaming towers.

Last year's scarezones were pretty tame during the day. The only one that would have been objectionable, IMO, was Lady Luck's; and they were very careful to cover up all the bodies and block access to Sting Alley so no one could peek.

OP, I think you'll be just fine. Enjoy your trip :)
