Hi,

Can you help me to decide which one I should choose? We are going between 2/9-2/14/03. I have 2 young children (4 and 1). We have never stayed at either resort. I just got the AP rates and they are somewhat comparable.

The Poly, for a nonsmoking room, we probably will be at the first floor (if the request is met), since the 2nd floor has no balcony. The Hawaiin longhouse will be under refurbishment in June, so I am not sure what type of condition it will be in in Feb.

The Sugar Loaf at GF, I can get a lagoon view (can I see the castle?) and they have balconies. But it seems that there are many people unhappy with their services.

I would really appreciate if you can help me to decide. Thanks

We've stayed at both...Poly concierge 3 times and Sugar Loaf once. We'll be returning to SL in December and just came home from Poly LVconcierge 10/14. We really enjoy both. We did have a hassle with the bill at GF but otherwise service was great there. I don't think any room there would be classifed as lagoon view though. We had marina view and were surprised that we could see MK fireworks quite well from our room although we couldn't see the castle.

I think the food at the Poly would probably suit your little ones better. Breakfast is pretty much the same although I like the pastries better at Sugar Loaf. The appetizers at the Poly are not as unusual as those at the GF and would probably suit most little ones better. They also have a little table with choices for children at dinner time. It is also nice for adults to share a glass of wine at that hour. No wine or cordials at Sugar Loaf. One other consideration for me would be the proximity of Hawaii to the beach...it's right on it!! At the GF it's perhaps a 5 minute walk to the beach.

We really love both though and I don't think you can go wrong with either.

As much as I love the GF, I would recommend the Poly with younger ones. You can get a fireworks view from Sugar Loaf, but you won't be able to see the castle. Also, that is the scaled down version of concierge, so there is no wine served at the dinner offerings and no late night desserts or cordials. I believe they start clearing the food at 8pm. The breakfast offerings at Sugar Loaf were very good, but the offerings throughout the rest of the day are geared towards adults and there wasn't much for the kids. The new volcano pool at the Poly is fantastic and they also have the beach area.

Enjoy your trip.

Thanks for the help.

With the poly, do you have any concerns that the rooms are near the refurbishment time (we will be there in Feb. while the refurbishment will be in June)? Will the room in bad condition?

Grand Floridian just seems to be a dream place to stay. Also, I think you can walk to MK? Is that right? I think Poly is probably the right choice for us, but GF is GF, it has that flair. It is so hard to choose.

The rooms in the Poly concierge are in beautiful shape. I think it's a structural issue not a cosmetic one....not that they're going to fall down:D !

You can not walk to the MK from either. From both you can ride the monorail or catch a resort launch. From the Poly you can also walk over to the TTC and catch the ferry to the MK (we often return to the Poly this way) or the direct monorail to Epcot.

The GF is definitely a beautiful place to stay. It's a tough decision. I wouldn't want to choose the Poly and spend the week gazing at the GF wondering "what if". By staying at Sugar Loaf, you would have to give up the castle view from your room, but you'd have a balcony and view of the fireworks. With the age of your children, maybe they won't eat much more than breakfast offerings anyway. The GF has a small toddler pool, a quiet pool and a zero entrance pool off the beach with a water slide. They also have kids activities daily by the quiet pool. From the GF, the first monorail stop is the MK. Coming back, you can hop on the boat and the GF is the first stop. Just a word of warning, after our first stay at the GF we were hooked. We haven't stayed anywhere else since then.

Enjoy your trip planning.
