Anyone have a magic secret to getting white football pants clean? DS12 practiced in the mud and my normal routine isn't getting the pants clean. I'm soaking in oxyclean right now and will bleach them AGAIN but I've done that twice now (didn't dry them).

I'd take ANY suggestions!!

Have you tried hydrogen peroxide? It is great at getting out blood stains. Just pour it full strength into the wash water. Years ago a fried of ours would use cascade powdered dish detergent to get her kids socks white. But I have never tried it myself.

Going to try it right now! I'll let you know!

I think part of my problem is these are new pants and the pads are actually sewed into the pants...the mud has soaked through to the pads and not getting clean. Finding the hydrogen peroxide right now!

I use Tide with Bleach and wash them as soon as they come home. They get really white!!!

Fill up your washer to the lowest level with the HOTTEST water you can get. Add 1C powdered CASCADE dishwasher detergent and 1 C Clorox 2 Color Safe bleach. Make sure all is dissolved well then add in the pants and any other whites that need a boost. Let the washer run a bit to agitate then stop it and let it sit overnight or at least for 6 hours etc. When it's done raise the level of the water - turn the washer on so it fills up and let it run through the rest of the cycle.

yep, I did this. Stubborn Iowa mud!!

Ok, about to throw them in the wash now and I'll try that. The perioxde didn't seem to budge any of the stains but maybe I didn't let it sit long enough.

I have not tried Cascade dishwashing detergent, but I have used Dawn liquid dishsoap. I just let the clothes soak for awhile, and the stains always come out. However, when I tried this with my son's white football pants, the stain didn't really come out -- I had let them sit for almost a week, though, before I remembered them. (I made DS take them off in the garage.)

I read about this trick on the DIS. It's gotten out the toughest stains for me (grease, ink, etc.). Thank you to whoever posted it first! :)

Pour white vinegar over the stain. Make sure it is drenched. Let it sit for 30 min.. Then pour lemon juice over the stain. Drench it. Let it sit another 30 min.. Wash as normal.

HTH!

I also use Tide with bleach, and soak them for about 6 hours prior to washing them. Sometimes I wash them 2x, but they usually get clean...

Are these the new Nikes with the internal pads?

If they are, DS has the same ones. I have been successful with Oxyclean, but about 20x the recommended amount.

We have a front load washer, so this is what I do. First I make a paste with the oxyclean and rub that over the stain. Then I throw 2 cups of oxyclean right into the washer and use tide with bleach. Put on heavy duty cycle/hot and run. So far, the stains have come out.

They're just going to get dirty again anyway. :lmao:

This is what I was thinking. I am not sure practice pants are supposed to be squeaky clean. You don't want your kid looking like they don't get in there and get down to it!

Yep, the Nikes. I've tried almost all the suggestions and so far still not as clean as I'd like them. Going to try vinegar and lemon juice now.

Their practice pants are the same as their game pants (5th/6th grade) and they have a game tomorrow. It will be interesting to see the other kid's pants after this muddy practice!
