does anyone know the speeds of some of the high intensity rides? Or a link that would tell them to me.
I have the hardest time getting my son on R and RC, and Everest. He rides test track about 100 times every time we are in the world, but I can't get him to continue to ride the other two. I thought if they were slower than Test track I could tell him that.
He has tried both of them, it's getting him back on. Any suggestions?
Thanks!!!!

Perhaps he's just not a coaster person? :confused3 I think they're great, but there are plenty of teens and adults who don't enjoy them. To each his/her own.

That is my least favorite ride in all of Disney, I think the start is too intense...maybe it's just not for him...:scared:

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Test Track... HATE RnR. The take off makes me feel like my neck is about to snap in half.

With Test Track, the acceleration up to 65 MPH is slower then RnR.

All are very different rides...IMHO. Test Track allows you to build up to the acceleration, whereas RnRC blasts you right from the start. EE is way different in that you are forward AND backwards. Why does your son not want to go on these rides? You may just have to wait until he is ready. Me and my sons (aged 9 & 7) loved them all.....RnRC was their favorite) but everyone is different.

Truth be told.. here are some facts....

The Rock 'n' Roller Coaster opened at Dsney's Hollywod Studios on July 30, 1999.

This thrill ride features a high-speed launch of 0-60 mph in 2.8 seconds, three inversions, two rollover loops and one corkscrew -- all firsts for a Walt Disney World attraction. (Technically it's 58 mph but what we don't know won't kill us)

Guests experience a force of nearly 5 Gs as they transition from launch to loop at the ride's first inversion. For comparison, astronauts aboard the Space Shuttle experience 3 Gs at liftoff.

At 3,400 feet, the coaster's track is more than a half-mile long.

The Stratocaster guitar at the entrance of the attraction is 40 feet tall and has a 32-foot-long neck.

Each coaster train features different Aerosmith songs.

The songs heard to each ride contain some new lyrics written specifically for the attraction. (Love in an Elevator is sung as "Love in a roller coaster," for example.)

Songs heard on each car -

Car license plate:

1QKLIMO: "Nine Lives"
UGOGIRL: "Love in an Elevator" & "Walk This Way"
BUHBYE: "Young Lust", "F.I.N.E.*" & "Love in a Roller Coaster"
H8TRFFC: "Back in the Saddle" & "Dude (Looks Like a Lady)"
2FAST4U: "Sweet Emotion"

Hidden Mickeys

One in the pre-show (found on the ground, formed by three coils of wire),
One in place of each "Expiration Date" for the license plates on the limos
Two on the ride track itself (one found on a yellow sign behind a red limo, one on the ground in a city scape area)
Two in the tile mosaic in the room before the recording studio near the marble doors.
One in the post show area to the right as one enters this area
Many on Steven Tyler's shirt on the poster outside.
One on Joe Perry's medalion on the outside poster.

My guess is he's just not a coaster type. I LOVE test track, especially the speed when we loop the building.

Roller coasters? I can't stand them. I've been on RnRC only because I want to say that I've ridden every ride at Disney. Never again. For that matter, I'm really fighting myself about EE when we go back down there. I want to for bragging rights and curiosity, but I just don't know...

There are a lot of variables for me as to why I like TT but not roller coasters. For me, for example, I don't like heights (which things seem way higher when on a small track up in the air - Birnbaum's also recommends guests with a fear of heights bypass EE), and I don't like going upside down. Also, I'm not too crazy about going backwards on EE.

Speed just doesn't bother me. Maybe it's the same with your son. :confused3

Well, if he's tried them, didn't like them, and doesn't want to ride them again, what is the point in getting him to ride? Why does he have to like them?

The sensations that roller coasters produce are just unpleasant to some people (like me), and it has nothing to do with which ride is faster. Riding high intensity coasters is not comfortable or fun for me, and I don't see the point in doing something on my vacation that makes me feel bad.

how old is your son? well, not it it really matters, but if he is young enough, he may just not be ready yet. if he is older, maybe he is just like me! I am 51 and really hate roller coasters. Hubby Nebo finally gave up (I hope) trying to talk me into them. I despise heights! (Now, Nebo, he's scared of widths!:rotfl: ) I can't understand why someone whould want someone else to ride something that terrifys them?:confused3 It is no fun for them..
It must be a touch of sadism. I wish I DID like them. yes, I DO feel like I'm "missing out". doesn't matter.
he DID finally talk me into test track, and, yes, I do LOVE it. It's not the speed, it's the height. and the "going upside down". I like Cedar point cause there are about 4 or 5 roller coasters I will do. He keeps trying to talk me into EE and I just don't want to do it.
Maybe your son might "grow into it". maybe not. I get very irritated when I hear people in line belittling their child...."look, that kids is 3 years younger than you, and HE'S going on it!"
I'm very proud of myself that I do Soarin'. but only on the bottom row. (I did the middle row once) I know it's only a simulator, but I still don't want to be 40 feet in the air with my legs hanging down! and I never ruin anyone elses's fun. I'll patiently wait, I'lll even wait in line with you if you want. Just don't make me ride something that terrifies me. "Not much fun for little Harpo"

I rode RnR with our then-seven-year-old (who did not like EE). He loved it, and as we were walking out, I asked him how he liked going upside down.

"We went upside down?" was his surprised response.

I think being in the dark helped . . . maybe it will with your son as well.

Yea and then there are those that just plane LIE to you to get you to go on RnR. Everytime I opened my eyes we were going up side down again!! I don't like Space Mountain, Why oh why did they think I would like RnR???

And I'm always sitting next to my Dd so I can't swear either.....

He has tried both of them, it's getting him back on. Any suggestions?
Thanks!!!!

This isn't a matter of coaxing a child to try a ride; the OP said that his son has already tried both rides and doesn't want to do them again.

On our last two trips we took a newbie each time (friends of DD12). Each was scared to ride RnRc and ToT. As we walked up the street at night to get our seats for Fantasmic I turned to each girl and said "I'll give you twenty bucks if you ride both rides with me & DS." Amazingly I never was taken up on my offer. Good luck!!

I wouldn't force him. Some kids just don't like coasters. Just ask him each time you go, and see if he wants to go on again. He'll let you know when he's ready.

We have a rule in our family that seems to work. Don't want to get on? That is fine, but be willing to wait for everyone else to ride (our kids are 17 and 20). Try it once and no one will ever bug you about it again.

It seems to work for us...oh did I mention it is usually ME that is waiting for everyone else haha.

Last trip I decided to see if my fear was real or just fear of the unknown...ummm yea, it was real ha ha... never again. I tried and HATED the following:

Tower of Terror (Traumatizing is the best word for that little experience! I had nightmares for weeks, and I still may never get on another elevator. :rotfl: kidding)
Rock N' Roller Coaster (I could do it again, but still not for me)
Splash Mountain (Hated it...how dare they drop me 5 stories!!! :rotfl: :lmao: )

Strangely enough, I love Space Mountain (although it KILLS my neck) and Test Track.

Some people just don't like to be dropped, spun around, tipped upside down, etc...I am one of those people. At least now I can prove it ha ha. I saw a show once on the travel channel that said fear is actually very real and is scientific. Some people are not "wired" to like thrills and all the coaxing in the world is not going to change their minds.
(you know your son better than I do though. :) )

have to agree, some people are just not coaster lovers. Love TT, will do it again and again. Tried EE this last trip and oh no, never, ever again!!

He has tried both of them, it's getting him back on. Any suggestions?
Thanks!!!!

my suggestion, dont force him. some people just arent coaster people. Test Track is not 'scary' the other two are in the dark, with one flipping you upside down and the other with a monster in it. Maybe he'll enjoy that one day, but dont try and force him to like something just because you enjoy them.

just my two cents. :hippie:

OK, so you haven't heard what you wanted to hear. I totally get that, because if I were in your shoes, I would be trying too. I have two younger nieces (8 and 10) and we just got them to go on RnR. They loved it. DN10 went on Tower of Terror and loved it. If your youngin rode for the first time at a considerably younger age (let's say age 7) and now he is (let's say 9), than 1) You may have traumatized him by downplaying it when rode at age 7, which gave him quite the surprise scare and 2) I can see that you want him to go again now, because he can handle it better now and be surprised at how much he might enjoy it now. I think you should list the top 5 scariest attractions and rank them yourself, then check-off the rides that he likes and will ride again. The next ride on the list that still frightens him, work toward getting him on THAT ONE ONLY. You may be overwhelming him by throwing all of these big rides at him at once...narrow his focus to just the next scary ride for him, so he can master them one at a time. If he likes Space Mountain and EE, RnR may be next. Narrow the focus, offer big incentives and tell him that he can keep his eyes closed the whole time to just get acclimated. And promise him that if he doesn't like it, you will never bother him again....this is when you know he is not a roller coster kind of kid.

Good Luck

I really appreciate all of your advice, but I think He is actually a coaster person, but only certain coasters... He'll ride Space, thunder and splash mountain. Rides the thunderbolt and phantom at Kennywood. I think he's just being stubborn. I would never force him to do anything, but I really think if he enjoys the other ones, that he would love these. It has been a couple years since he's tried them, but maybe I will give him a break and when he's ready he's ready. I guess it's not that big of a deal. But thanks for all of your advice!!!
