A few months ago, I dyed my hair reddish brown (my hair is naturally ash blonde). It had faded beyond return in the sun. So i tried dying blonde over it. Didn't work. Went to Sally Beauty today and purchased a box of the ColorFix by Jheri Redding. Now, it has returned my hair to blonde, with a strawberry tint. I'm not too disturbed by the color but more of the smell.. It smells like sulfur. I do not want to go to a Salon and pay top dollar to do whatever they can do (i'm a broke college student). Has anyone else had this problem and are there any fixes to it?

I've tried shampooing with my regular shampoo, putting my very fragrant coconut smelling Aussie conditioner on it. But to no avail..once it dries the smell is back. I've been told that this is a result of most color restorers, so it seems like it would be common. :confused3

I was going to suggest vinegar too. It will make your hair feel dry tho so make sure you condition well!

I vote vinegar too. Just plain white vinegar, nothing fancy ;)

Then condition your hair really well. maybe even leave it in a bit longer than normal.

I would try posting this question on the hair board at makeupalley (dot) com
That place is full of experts.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I tried the vinegar but it didn't work. I went to sally beauty to as what should be done. They suggested this ion conditioner. It worked so far. I'll se if it works permanently.

Love the ion product lines - including the dye! (doesnt fade, and the color lasts longer than other products I've tried)

I wasn't sure of the Ion line. Because the price was a bit high but I have the Beauty Club card which got me one of the protein restorer packets for 1.19. But the bottle here is 13.99 with the card. I can't say that i'm very nice to my hair (I color(after this mishap, probably no more), straighten, curl but always with heat protector). But the Ion stuff really made my hair soft. Like when you use the conditioner in the dye boxes.

at my Sally's a bottle of the ION color is only $5 - I buy the developer when its on sale, and I only use 2 ounces at a time, so it lasts quite awhile (so I dont remember how much I pay for that) I have gloves, the bottle that I bought way back when I first started going this route -

I also buy the ION Color Defense conditioner that I use a few times a week - but it costs $7 for $30 ounces I believe - :wizard:

To get the red out, use the ION bleach that is ammonia free. That is the BEST bleach I have ever used! My hair is really fine and always becomes damaged!

Also, you have to add these little drops into the bleach that will take any red/orange undertones out. I added some OMbre highlights on the tips of my reddish-brown hair with bleach (which would have turned it coppery-orange), but since I added the drops, I got a beautiful light brown-blonde color.

Not sure what the drops are called, but they are in the dye section. The person who works there should know what they are.....As for the smell, I have no clue....Good luck!
