Will someone please direct me to the area where I can find the forms for permission letter when only one parent and a step parent are going on a cruise? I will be forever grateful to you Thank you

Hi there,

I searched and searched as well, finally just "googled" a format similar to this and added the ships name and port o' call in a word doc, sent it to other parent to sign and notorize. Good luck, ours was easy peasy

I (parent's name), authorize my child/children, (child/children’s name) to travel to (destination) on (date of travel) aboard Airline/Flight # (flight information) with (accompanying adults), returning on (date of return).

I asked my Lawyer about this and she had never heard of it. I emailed her MANY cut and paste about this letter and again, she had never heard of it and she has been a Family Law Attorney for 25 yrs.

We are in the process of me getting Sole Parental Responsibility so it shouldn't be an issue come next May but you never know. Florida is a hard state to get this in.

I look forward to the responses!!!

If you search it on these boards you will find alot of hits, I recall the most of them stating they were never asked for it, and I hope that is true for us, that said it is in my document folder for my upcoming cruise, I will report back when I get back

We thought wed have to use it 2 years ago, when my fiances daughter was having problems with getting a passport, since her bio dad, wasnt signing the passport forms like he was suposed to. Since, then hes decided to sign over his rights, so, that problem should go away in the near future.
Im thinking that the form, though I could be wrong, is a CYA for Disney, on the off chance, that a child is kidnapped/taken without permission, and taken off the ship at a foreign port, by one of the"parents"

I havent been asked by Disney for one but to get my sons passport I had to have his father sign a notorized form from the Post office saying that he was aware and gave permission for me to take my son out the country...

There are reasons why even if it is not "needed" per se by DCL itself, to carry that particular paperwork. I carry one for my neice and nephew whenever I travel outside the general area where we live. My parents carry one for each grandchild when they take them across a state line. Ours usually include emergency medical consent as well. We get them notarized (my aunt is a notary) so that no matter what, we are covered. As for having a bio parent, non traveling, sign one, it doesn't need to be signed, if the child is traveling with the custodial parent (assuming the child has a passport.)
With my sons' passport, we are having to sign the parental consent form that the post office has, stating that his bio father is unable to be located, thus his signature can not be obtained.
IF you are the bio mother, and are married to the bio father, and both are listed on the birth certificate, but the father is not traveling with you, you do NOT need to carry a travel authorization. Hope this makes sence?

Trust me, I am TRYING to do something about this letter AND my kids obtaining a passport. This is WAY too much money to be turned away at the gate!! I am NOT a gambler!!

I just found it odd that it is discussed so much and yet the people that SHOULD know about this letter (DCL & a Family Law Attorney) don't!!

I'm sorry Tracykim! I did not intend to imply that you were not doing what is necessary for your trip! I just stated what we do, and are having to do, and why.
Also, as a side note, maybe they mis-understood what type of paperwork you were asking about? I figured out with one of my prior attorneys, that if you asked for something one way, it did not exist, but ask another and it did. Maybe that could be the issue?

Oh Gosh, I never took your post as anything but informative!!! So please don't think you said something wrong or feel bad.

I did an internet search and copied and pasted a mess load of info (mainly from forums like this) to my attorney. She still hadn't heard about this "letter". At least DCL had heard about it but said it wasn't needed. So I hope my lawyer understood. We have been talking about passports for my kids and the "letter" that is needed from the absent parent for that!!!

I understand why the need for the letter and I am ALL for it. I still haven't read about anyone actually needing it or being asked for it. I have heard of someone needing it in Mexico though.

Oh Well, I will totally cover my bum so encase I am asked, I will have it!!!

I didn't have to sign any kind of forms when I applied for my DD's passport (whose father is absent). They told me if the father's name was not on the birth certificate, then you don't have to have his authorization/signature.


I have often traveled alone with my DD, and have never been asked for any permission forms or anything.

We have been talking about passports for my kids and the "letter" that is needed from the absent parent for that!!!

I dont know if it played a part in getting a passport for my step daughter or not, but on the passport form, there is an area for exceptions as to why the other parent has not/can not sign. We filled it out, and found a number to the actual processing office,not the number for the call center where the operators dont know about things like that, and low and behold, my sd, now has a passport.

Hmmmmm..... I did not know that!!! But the thing is we know where he is and how to contact him. My luck I would get caught and it would be ME in trouble!!!

Thank you for the info...all of it is great. My SIL is going to hopefully have it court ordered that he can take his daughter with us on our Disney Dream vacation He has placement custody, but, the mom is a nut in all sense of the word and we know she will not sign the form...so sad for children in this situation...again, thank you for leading me to the form..

We also knew where her father was and how to reach him. He was court ordered to sign the pasport app, but didnt. Which was the problem. We much rather have a passport then a bc on the off chance we go overseas to Europe. Thats when we saw the part at the bottom, for exceptions. When I asked the call center, about what would constitute an exception, they told me they couldnt answer that. So I got a supervisor on the phone, a processing number to call, and a passport. I think we also sent a copy of where in the divorce decree where it said he was supposed to sign.

I have the orig copy of my sons birth certificate, listing father unknown, as well as the legal copy listing his father.... When there is a court order requiring the non custodial parent to sign consent for a passport, all you have to submit with the correct exemption form, is the copy of the court order.
I am fighting this passport application tooth and nail, because frankly, its a better ID than the school issued ID..... and I just don't want to deal with that stuff LATER.

Thats the problem we had was spite. The only thing I can say is try it, and keep pushing. I cant swear we got lucky, and I cant swear that it was the copy where he was court ordered. Dont give up if the call center says something. Ask to talk to the supervisor, and try and get the process center (2 different places) number and talk to them. The one thing I did learn, was that the 800 call center number that everyone has, knows absolutely nothing about the process. When I called and asked specifically what exceptions would be denied and what they would consider or aprove, they couldnt answer.
