Hello everyone,

I have a problem on the ship. When I'm in the corridors with rooms, I can never tell if I'm going to wards the front or the aft of the ship.

I remember hearing a tip once, but I honestly cannot remember. Any help from you cruising pros would be helpful!

Katdb

*at least I get my exercise when I walk all the way around the ship because I turned left instead of right  *

Not real sure, but I do remember hearing something about arrows on the carpet.

I believe I read somewhere that there are anchors in the carpet. The top of the anchor points to the front of the ship, the hooks point to the back. I hope that's right!

RED arrows/anchors point AFT

BLUE arrows/anchors point FORWARD

RED arrows/anchors point AFT

BLUE arrows/anchors point FORWARD

I seem to recall the problem with this is that the direction of the anchors switch some where. I can't remember the details now, but it seemed like the above statement was true on the port side, but was reveres for the starboard, or was it that the above was true if you were aft, and the carpet was turned the other way forward of mid-ship.

The top of the anchor points to the front of the ship, the hooks point to the back. I hope that's right!

I think the problem here is that the design is made of half a blue anchor and then the other half is a flipped red anchor.

Hah! That explains it then, I thought I remembered it had something to do with the cute fishies in the hallways, hanging up by the door!

It's easier than that folks...

The cabin numbers INCREASE as you go aft.

Look at two adjacent cabin doors...The one with the larger number is toward the back of the ship :scratchin

hookoodoo.....I also remember there being a problem with those anchors in the carpet.....it would be funny if the ship started out that way, but when a new piece of carpet was installed....it was installed the wrong way!!! That would screw up everything!!!

I also go by what GenieDana said....just look at the cabin numbers.

Cabin numbers increasing is a good way to see which way you are going.

Me, I have the problem that I get on the wrong side of the ship. I'm supposed to be on starboard and I'm on port.

:p

There are also small white signs in the hallways, just off the elevator lobbys, which point out forward and aft, and I think even note whether it is the port or starboard hallway. I remember going the wrong way down the hall a few times during my first cruise. I remember thinking I was walking toward my aft cabin until I ran into a door with a "crew members only" sign at the very forward end of the hall. I think I have it down now, though.

To add to the confusion, the forward and aft elevators face aft, but the midship elevators face foward. That's what always messed me up. I was used to getting off the elevator and turning a certain way, but that gets screwed up when you take the midship elevators.

Look at the good side of this problem! I can't think of a better place to be lost!!!!

My kids had it figured out within a day. They knew which way to turn when getting off the elevator or stairs, depending on which way we were going. I would always end up going the wrong way. I had to stop and visualize the layout of the floor in my head. Kids thought it was funny & annoying. I just started following them around, lol.

Have to go back so I can figure it out.

Again, the cabin numbers can come to your rescue.

While the 1st number of the cabin numbers indicates the deck number, the 2nd number can be used to determine port or starboard.

(Now keep in mind I might get this backwards but....)
Cabin numbers on Starbord start with X000 (where "X" is the deck number) and increase going aft until the last cabin is numbered X1??. Cabin numbers on Port start with X500 and increase going aft until the last cabin is numbered X6??.

Stated another way, cabins numbers on the port side are the same numbers on the starboard side plus 500.

You're right, you did get it backwards, but the idea is a sound one. The starboard cabins start at X500, the port ones at X000, so if you see a 5 or a 6 as the second number in the cabin, you're on the starboard side of the ship.

Contrary to a prior post, there are not any elevators on the ships. There are "lifts" and DS 13 now loves talking about the "aft lift":teeth: So far he hasn't stuttered when saying that:earseek: or DW would really have something to say:o ::yes::

Regarding the blue/red anchor symbols on the carpet. I really believe that there are a few sections installed backwards because it works most of the time, but not always. I like the room number technique for determining the deck, side and direction you art traveling.

Again, thank you everyone for your help!

My Mom always kids me because if you give me a map, I can find the shortest route, but it takes me forever to remember how to get anywhere by memory!!!
Even on the ship, I always, ALWAYS, end up going the wrong way.

I will definitely be printing this out and bringing with me. NO MORE CONFUSION!!! (... well, at least about directions... chemistry is another story!)

Thanks
Katdb
