Hey! I know this is an odd question and subjective. For someone who can get dizzy or feel slightly nauseous on some rides with quick movement etc. What have you done that has helped with this?? Obviously i know there's rides you can avoid etc..... Also i know they dont want to take anything to make the drowsy. just curious what you'd done and had success with? Thanks everyone!

Bonine if they haven’t tried it already for motion sickness. No side effects. Works for some, not others.
I second Bonine. It’s a 24 hour medication, so if they are the least bit concerned about drowsiness, they can take it right before bedtime and be covered the next day. I take it before bed, not because I have noticed any drowsiness but because I want to be sure there isn’t any lag time between dosing and getting on rides in the morning.

I use this. I get sick everywhere, planes, trains, automobiles, boats, walking on a high platform, rides, spinning, doing a somersault. All of it. I started using this maybe 7 years ago and it works great. I will still get feel icky after The Incredicoaster and Star Tours, I used to get sick on the rides with screens especially. I'm not sick like I was though, it's tolerable with no vertigo setting in anymore. I went from not being able to do half the rides to doing 95% of them. The only one I'm too scared to try is Smugglers Run.

I use Dramamine as Bonine doesn't work as well for me. I'm well use to the slight drowsiness; so I just power through it.

I use the Less-Drowsy Dramamine or Bonine (same active ingredient). It works really well for me, I can actually ride Star Tours, etc and not feel ill after.

Ha, me too. I have two of these, started out with the original Relief Band, then I forgot it one trip and bought the Emeterm once I got there because it was cheaper. I think they work equally well, but I prefer the Relief Band because I like the wristband *significantly* better. The wristband on the Emeterm is difficult to put on with one hand IMO and I frequently worry that it's going to pop off (although it never has). The Relief Band has the option of a traditional watch-style strap, which is what I prefer. Pricier, though.

For anyone who doesn't know, the Emeterm band and the Relief Band are electronic, not just pressure point bands. They send little electric impulses up your arm which helps somehow. Feeling is very much like a TENS unit if anyone has used those for physical therapy or pain relief.

I have really bad motion sickness. The only things I can't do with the Relief Band/Emeterm that I know of are GOTG and Space. I used to be able to do GOTG when it was TOT, but when they changed the ride sequences for GOTG, I wasn't able to do it anymore even with the band. Thought I was going to lose it on Space even with the band.

I can do Star Tours no problem, although I do close my eyes briefly for some of the scenes. I always try to get a seat near the middle of the row. I ended up near the back on the very end on my last trip and found I was having to close my eyes much more frequently. I also haven't tried Smugglers Run. I intended to on my last trip, but my daughter and husband said no way (they love it but thought I shouldn't risk it).

On my last trip, I also got some prescription scopolamine patches because I wanted to try them on the airplane. They also worked well. I liked them because they last for 3 days and they didn't make me drowsy like the pills, although drowsiness is listed as a side effect. I was able to do Indy, Cars and most things with just the patch, but I added my wristband for Star Tours and BTMRR and a couple others out of an abundance of caution.

Star Tours is one that can sometimes make me a little queasy. It's not serious in my case, but I do find myself sometimes anticipating when this thing is over! If you sit in the back you are furthest from the axis of motion, so you are actually moving more. If you sit in the center of the vehicle (not the center of the seating exactly because of the front area), you will actually experience less motion. I find that this helps. This could also be applied to any ride that uses similar movement.

I am going to try some patches next trip! I use the meclizine tablets if I need to as well.

Can you do the Incredicoaster? That one does me in every time no matter what I try. I can feel the vertigo setting in as I go around the loop.

I also use a band, as well as take non-drowsy or less drowsy Dramamine. Bonine made me feel sick the one time I took it, not sure if it was the bonine or just because I need to take pills with food and I didn't have enough food in my tummy that day. With using both of those things I am able to ride most rides. I feel a little funny after Gotg and RR and IC ( Disneyland) and I won't do the orange side of Mission Space. But mostly, they work for me.

Bonine is my friend. I started taking it while scuba diving (trust me throwing up in your regulator is not fun). It doesn't make me drowsy. I start taking it the night before and take it every morning thereafter. I found it needs to be in my system to really work well, thus the night before. I start taking it the night before my trip to WDW, take it the next morning and have no problem driving 7 1/2 hours down to Orlando. Then I take it every morning. I used to couldn't ride FOP, GoTG, even EE made me dizzy and I had to sit for at least 1/2 hour afterwards. Now, no problems on any of them. I don't take it with food, just when I leave my room for the day.

I've also used meclizine (generic Bonine) on my last two trips and it really helps. For those of you mentioning that you haven't tried Smuggler's Run, I've found that Smuggler's Run is less nausea-inducing than Star Tours. With meclizine, I didn't feel sick at all after SR, but I did feel a little queasy after Star Tours and had to close my eyes at a few points. I encourage you to try SR! Try being engineer or gunner your first time, so you can close your eyes if you need to.

The Scopolamine patch was a game changer for me as far as motion sickness goes. I even did Tron (twice!) and Everest at WDW with no problems.

The only rides I haven't at tried DLR are Space, Teacups, and Incredicoaster. My recent DLR trips have been day trips from a relative's house and I'm NOT taking any chances when I have a 30 mile drive home lol. Teacups I don't care about. Space and Incredicoaster I'm holding off until I have an onsite stay so I can quickly get back to a room if it, ahem, doesn't go well. Then I'll try one of them at the end of one day and the other at the end of another day.

I second scopolamine patch, MD order, buy works very well. This however, you need to apply several hrs prior to your rides of concern. The older I get the more the "yipes" get to me after rides. Bonine is otc or you can get online.

On our last trip I took Bonine each day. You can take up to 2 pills in a 24 hour period so i took one in the morning and one at night to keep it in my system. This is the first trip I haven't felt off the whole trip. I did avoid a few as I was worried that I would still get sick. I stayed away from Smugglers Run, Flight of Passage, Guardians of the Galaxy (I also don't care for roller coasters), SoarN and Tron (more so for it being coaster).

My last trip was the first time I needed medication for motion sickness. I got some Dramamine from a shop on Buena Vista St. It helped. Took it just before I left for the parks and again about 8 hours later.

Bonine. Yes, same active ingredient but it won't make you drowsy. I took Draminine Non-Drowsy once and ended up falling asleep at a table in the middle of Pixar Pier. So dang embarrassing!! That had never happened when I've taken Bonine. Additionally, I use SeaBands (about $10-12 at Walmart or Target). Learn the proper pressure point so it has a chance at being effective! Unsightly? Maybe. Effective? Yep (at least for me!). Also, I never let my tummy get empty. Seems counter-intuitive, but I get more nauseous when I'm hungry.
