I need some help from the real experts - the Dissers! I have a room/ticket/dining plan package for Decemeber with 6 day base tickets. My sister and I are already talking about another trip in April and possibly Sept of next year (4 days each) so I was thinking that an annual pass might work for me.

The price of the ap as listed on Allears and WDWInfo is $462. I called Disney to ask about it and they said that if I upgrade my existing ticket when I get there in Dec it would cost me $365. I don't get the big price difference.

Also, what would that do to my existing reservation? If I upgrade after we check in what would that do to the dining plan? Would I have to use my 6 day ticket up before I could use the ap?

Another option would be to upgrade to a 10 no expiration ticket. Could I upgrade at the old price (I bought this ticket before the latest price increase) or would it be at the current prices?

I know this is long - sorry! - but I could really use some help figuring this out.

Thanks!!!!!

I am certainly no expert when it comes to AP's, but I did upgrade my package ticket earlier this year. We did a package during the free dining promotion. I upgraded my base ticket to an AP on the first day of our trip. It did not impact the dining portion of our package. My understanding is that whatever you paid towards the base ticket is applied to the AP. It sounds like the CM calculated incorrectly when he or she quoted the $365 figure.

If you are potentially planning two more trips this year, an AP is probably a good idea for you since your tickets alone would be over $600 for your trips. There are other benefits to consider with AP's too, like room discounts, free parking, and the DDE card (you can call and order this at WDW after you upgrade to an AP...you just have to pick it up at guest relations at Epcot). The big disadvantage (IMHO) is that you would probably only do room only reservations for your subsequent trips and won't be allowed to purchase the dining plan.

Is there a way around this? I thought I read of people buying a one day package in order to get the dining plan. Can you do that and get the dining plan for the length of your stay?

Amarberry, if you don't mind me asking, did you pay $462 for you AP when you upgraded? That's what Allears and WDW Info lists as the price. Or did you get a discount, like the CM said I would get?

You could buy a package with a one day base ticket for future use, but you can't get the AP room rate when you buy a package.

I paid whatever the list price was (probably the $462 amount) minus the value of my one day base ticket. As far as I know, there is no discount for AP's. The CM might have just been referring to applying the value of your package ticket to the AP.
