Hello Everyone--

If you have the slightest caring bone in your body for dogs, please
sign this petition. It is to get Oprah to expose Puppy Mills and help stop
them. Puppy Mills are basically dog factories where animals are kept
in small cages and forced to have litter after litter until they are
physically unable. I can be more graphic, but I don't need to be.
Please sign the petition and pass this on to all of your friends and
colleagues.

Thanks so much! The URL is below.

Thanks for posting the link. It's a very good cause, and an issue a lot of people don't know about.

These poor dogs are kept in small metal cages for their entire lives... they rarely have human contact except to take their babies away. The dogs are no more than baby making machines. Most are not given proper medical care.
Please do not buy a puppy from a petstore!!!

I hope oprah can do something!!!

People can sign all of the petitions they want but the proactive thing to do is to NOT BUY PETS AT A PET STORE! I have seen more people walk into a pet store and make an impulse purchase of a puppy. They have never seen the parents of the puppy, they know nothing about the temperment because the "cashier" is clueless about the poor dog. They are housed in cages where they have to do their business and eat their dinner. They have little human interaction or socialization. I would like to see pet stores banned from selling puppies. That would help.

I will gladly sign! I do agree with DawnCt1, though. I hate pet stores!

I signed!

And yes, I try to tell everyone I can to NOT buy from a pet store. Thankfully, I don't know of any in my city that sell them.

You know what, as much as people how bad it is to buy from pet store, they will still do it. Alot of people are impulse buyers, they think buying a pet is like buying a new car, that you don't have to worry about previous behavoral problem with "new" pets. Plus, the adoption process requires lots of patience and preparation.

If I were someone powerful, I would love to -
1. Make pet store illegal to sell dogs on a continuous basis.
2. All dogs sold by petstore must come from a legit buyer, proven, by law.
3. Make petstore have adoption center, like Petco, instead of selling them.
4. Make adoption process easier and faster.
5. Give tax break to those who adopt doggies. And a bigger break to those who adopt older doggies.

:)

Bump

adamak- the adoption process can take time because the shelters are making sure that the dogs go to a good home rather than a home that will just throw the dog away in a year. We don't sell dogs to the first person that comes in with the proper amount of money... we adopt dogs to approved homes. It takes time to approve a home and the requirements that rescue groups have are based on previous problems that they have encountered. :)

Now this is a platform that I could support! People really don't realize the 10,000s of dogs that die because people are too centered on the "new puppy" myth.
As for me, rescues are the only way to go! :)

I signed also. I am in the process of trying to adopt a dog from a shelter. They look for letter of reference from people other than family. My husband & I do not have any close friends and I don't like the idea of asking people for this. I could lie and say my sister is my friend, they would not know. But I wont do that either. We have owned dogs for 30 of our 35 years of married life and to be denied for lack of reference is wrong.

I have to agree with you on this...I understand the need to check things out to make sure the dog does not go to the wrong home, but on the other hand, they make it impossible for people who want and CAN give loving homes....sometimes its to much paperwork just to adopt a pet.

We have issues with the breeder we bought our dog from. Our puppy has some genetic problems. His sister was very sick when my friend bought her (same time we picked out ours). We've met several other owners who have had problems with the same guy.

He has a cell phone numbers and brings the puppies to your house. We found him in the newspaper. We were excited about getting a dog so we didn't ask the right questions.

I have a bad feeling about this guy and I dont' think he takes care of his dogs. They are supposed to be AKC registered. Is there anyone we can contact so they can take a look at how he operates? It seems like all his puppies are always sick.

The guy just rubs me the wrong way.
