i am sorry, this seems awful, try to let them soak with baking soda for a while and maybe vinnegar in the rinse cycle. I hope the smell comes out

i don't know if it will work. I take cod liver oil, the liquid. I have spilled it on myself before and it has left the oil mark on the shirt after washing and drying. What worked in getting it out was shampoo. You need to break down the oil, and well if you use something for oily hair, maybe it will break the oil down, hence removing the oil.

You could also try one of the oil busting dishwashing liquids, is it dawn or something. Try in the sink, let the clothes sit there a while, then rinse them out.

Be careful if using in a HE washer because of the sudsing, it could make lots of foam if you try the dish soap or shampoo directly in the washer.
If you have washing machine that has a soak option maybe let them soak there for a bit with a couple different soaps in there.

Best of luck, don't you hate it when people don't think! or say something when they kind of think something is a miss..

I 've heard lemon juice works for skin...try some soaking in some dollarstore concentrate maybe just on one piece to start.

Go to wal mart and buy odo-ban. This gets the smell out of anything in the washer!!

Good Luck!!

Vanilla is what takes out fish smell. I've used it on coolers and its a trick that a fisherman taught me. I don't know if it would stain clothes though. But it's worth trying on something.
It's something you probably have in the house.

I used 20 mule team Borateen / Borax to get the stinky smells out and clean too.

Let it soak,

If you use a Dawn to cut the oil, I would use the pump foam not the dish liquid to cut sudzing and it uses one pump on the sponge to do all my pans.

Look for Reslove greese cutter too. If you have Simple green, I have used that on heavy soiled work jeans.

At least snails and salamanders don't stink... washed a few frogs too.

I had to throw a pair of jeans out last month that had cod liver oil spilled on them.

Tried everything... oxyclean, tide, lemon juice, multiple washings, letting them sit in the sun. Nothing worked for the smell.

Let us know if you find a solution :thumbsup2

We have an HE washer and use Tide with febreeze and back it up with the downy with febreeze added in the softener dispenser and vinegar in the bleach cup. Some things take several washes but I haven't found anything yet that doesn't eventually smell better after it.

I wondered though if vanilla extract added to the bleach dispenser might work after reading java's suggestion. It shouldn't stain if you put in bleach dispenser because that deletes it with water before it hits the fabrics.

Good luck with it.

Simple Green is a degreaser, and is used to "strip" detergent residues off of cloth diapers, so it's good at getting out serious smells as well.

When I cloth diapered I used about 10 sprays and a small handful of washing soda (different from baking soda, but same company) for an entire wash...that wasn't with an HE front loader, though, just a normal machine. Worked to clean, de-stink, and de-grease many things, though!

There is also a product named Lestoil that removes grease, oil and tar from the clothing...it's petroleum based, but works well.
Hope this helps
