Last year DS was 2 1/2 for our Christmas trip. He was fearless and went on every ride including the haunted mansion! He did Its tough to be a bug, universe of energy, everything. So I didn't give it a second thought about bringing him back this Christmas. He'll be 3 1/2 for this trip.

Yesterday we took him to his favorite Fall event "Burlington Truck Day" where dozens of big trucks and heavy equipment are on display for the kids to climb in. As soon as we got there he began to cry because of the air horns and begged to go home. All I could think of was "our trip to WDW could be a disaster".

So I just ordered youth size ear protectors (muffs). I'm hoping this will help. Has anyone else encountered this with their pre-schooler?

Oh, yes, but it's not a bad thing. Loud environments are not good for your hearing, even in limited doses. I carry a little box of foam earplugs in my bag at all times, and I pass them out anytime we end up somewhere loud. Carry the protection and use it whenever someone is uncomfortable.

My daughter, 2 1/2, does not like loud noises either. I have been looking for kid sized earplugs, but haven't been able to find what I am looking for. The only kid earplugs that I have found are puddy ones, like for swimming. I hope that I will be able to find her some that will work (I tried the regular foam ones, but they just fall out). I did see kid sized "Ear Planes" (the earplugs for flying) but not sure if they would be good or would work for noise reduction.

My daughter is also scarred by load noise and we use cotton balls its helps alittle and she can kinda control when she wants them in

good luck

I found ear plugs at walmart adn we use those as well

I feel your pain. My DD almost 4 has had this issue since she was 2.

Could you please tell me where you found those child size ear protectors?

Thanks!

I bought the $19.95 ones not the $327!!!! Shipping at this place is high ($7.95). I found two other sites that sold the same model but I don't recall their URLs.

Oh, yeah, we had the same thing with our 3-year old this summer. My hands made great ear covers--she would just climb in lap and I knew what to do. I'm going to check out those ear mufflers, though.

I have an almost 7yo DD that hates loud noises. She is really bad during thunderstorms at night.

When she was 3 we were at WDW and took her to see Voyage of the Little Mermaid - needless to say we had to leave early and she has not forgot about it. So be careful and check stuff out before seeing some shows. Some we just have to miss, unless my DH or I take her somewhere else while the other sees the show or rides.

You can use regular winter earmuffs, too, in a pinch.

I get the small Hearoes foam earplugs from drugstores and sporting goods stores. They are about $2-3 for a package of 6. These are fine for shows and fireworks, unless you are right on top of the speakers.

We have this same issue with our ds who is 5. I had to take him out of Finding Nemo as it was too loud. I tried the foam and silicone ear plugs, but he could still hear me whispering behind him. I bought him a set of ear muffs for sound reduction. I got them online from a manufacturing safety supply company. (I am sorry, I don't remember which one). They are adjustable size-wise, so they fit him pretty well. They work great. We gave them a trial run at the movies and he was thrilled - "thanks for getting me these Mom". Of course, I had to buy 2 sets as his little sister must have what he has, LOL. They cost less than $20 each.

We plan to keep them with us at all times while at Disney just incase we need them. It may look a little strange, but if it helps him to enjoy himself, that is all that matters.

Yikes, only days left until we go!!!!!

I never heard of "Hearoes". I'll have to check out some of the sporting goods stores in the area. Thanks for the tip!
