What are the best deals anyone has found when renting from John Wayne Airport in Orange County.... Best I coud do for 9 days at National using DC discount & $15.00 Entertainment coupon was $224.00 includes all the taxes & fees.. Couldn't use the coupon from DC since we are picking the car up in Orange County & Returing it in San Diego... That is where we are flying out of..

One more question is it always more expensive to rent in one locate & return in another???

Did you price Alamo? and Yes it's always more expensive to rent from one place and return to the other because the agency must make arrangements to get the car "home".:)

We did the opposite 3 years ago: picked up the car in San Diego and returned it to Orange County Airport! We went with Alamo (ugh!), and there was a $50 drop charge for the privelege.

So you didn't like Alamo?? What type of car did you get & price range.... Want to reserve a car soon but want to get a good price...

We reserved a mini-van for 2 weeks with Alamo. When we went to pick up the van in San Diego - which was supposed to be a Chevy Venture- we were asked if we'd like to upgrade to a Chevy Astro for only a few dollars more per day. We declined, because a few dollars times 14 days really adds up. So what kind of mini-van did we get...a Chevy Astro! My DH went back to the desk to say we'd been given the keys to the wrong van. They said they hadn't had Chevy Ventures for several months! How do you like that - they tried to get us to pay more money for the van they intended to give us all along! Thus my unhappiness with the tactics of Alamo!

It was 3 years ago, so I couldn't tell you exactly what we paid. I'm guessing in the $500 range for 2 weeks.

Having a drop off fee for another location is the norm, on VERY RARE occasions it may be waived (if they are a LOT of ressies for that particular type of vehicle at the return location.) Also, historically, car rental rates have always been high in So. Cal. It is rare to see rental rates cheaper in CA than in FL. SNA also is usually a more expensive airport for car rentals than LAX, I guess due to the lower volume.

Thru National doesn't look like they will charge me a drop off fee. But it is definately higher rates than you all pay in Florida and just check again and looks like they have come down about $20.00 since last week.. Going to book it and then if can get a better deal will rebook and cancel that one.. Is that the best way to do it???

I have a full size reserved at John Wayne thru National for
$185.24 base for one week for the first week of Sept.
Disney discounts $21.17 and $37.05
Surcharges $ 18.21
Total Estimate with EA $145.23

Have you check lately for a drop in price.. This is what mine looks like and my base rate is lower?

1 week 158.99
2 day @ 39.25= $78.50
$-15.00 entertainment discount (cant us DC coupon since drop off diff)
$-47.50 DC discount
License Fee $11.16
Tax $14.25
Total Estimate $200.40

Doodlebug, when I put in my dates (9/3 to 9/9) I get a higher price. $195.66 base and
$153.35 after taxes and the two disney discounts. This is for a full-size car with EA.

Wonder why my base rate is lower when I am picking up and dropping off in two different locations.. Oh well.. Looks like you are still geting a great rate for a week..
