Hi,

I got a phone call a couple of hours ago, asking me if I was still interested in the part time job I had applied for at my local Disney Store! Of course I said yes. I have been invited to a group interview on Sunday!!!:cheer2:

You were all so great when I needed help with my CV, now I really need your help with preparing for this interview. :goodvibes

Ok, so I am calm, lol. :rotfl:

I have never been for a group interview, and have no idea what to expect, can anyone help? I was told to just wear something that I feel comfortable in, and I don't need to take any of my paper work with me. It is on Sunday evening, after the shop closes.

I am thinking of wearing a pair of black Disney crocs, as they are the only shoes I can wear, my black leather pirates of the carribean watch, and taking my black DLP Tower of Terror bag. Is this too Disney? I think that it is quite subtle, but still says that I am a Disney person, without doing the full on t-shirt and DVC member gear route. Anyone have any thoughts on this?:confused3

I would really appreciate any, and all help that anyone could give me on this, it will be my first interview since I applied for my placement year at uni about 12 years ago!:scared1:

Thanks.

The Crocs and watch are ok but I think the bag may be overkill.

Group interviews are less of an interview and more of an interaction assignment, just go with the flow and chip in when you feel necessary.

Good luck.

Good Luck!

However, I would still go in a smart-casual kind of way. I know they have said something your comfortable in but I would still try and make a good impression, doesn't have to be a suit or anything like that but possibly black trousers and smart/plain top :thumbsup2

Thank for the good wishes disney_princess_85.:goodvibes

I was just thinking that I will have to carry my stuff in something, and it is black and silver, so kind of understated, but I will look for something else. Thank you for your thoughts and good wishes ely3857:goodvibes

scottishgirl87 - I was thinking of grey or black linen trousers, and maybe a black long sleeved top, but I was wondering if I should go for a bit of colour? I am on the large side though, so don't want to be too bright and garish, though I do love purple, lol. Thanks for the good wishes:goodvibes

Thanks mandymouse:goodvibes

Aww good luck Sid, hope all goes well for you, I think black/Grey trousers like you said would be fine, and a plain top of any colour would be ok. Good Luck to you.:goodvibes:goodvibes

Thanks Sue:goodvibes

I just wish I knew what to expect. :confused3

I am also concerned about the fact that I will, at some point, need to tell them about my medical conditions, and I'm not sure when I should do it, or how badly that will put them off me.:headache:

Your not under any obligation to advise them unless it affects your ability to do the job.

As someone who has interviewed I always prefer to know these things as it's honest but a group interview is too early to be giving them your history.

Thanks for your insight Jodie,:goodvibes does that mean that a group interview is the first, and then there will be another, one to one interview if they like me? Sorry to sound daft, but this is the first time I have done this.

When should I tell them if it is the only interview? I have Fibromyalgia, which is a chronic widespread pain condition, so it is something that affects me physically, but since I started my new medication I am a lot better. I am fit for the job, as far as I know what it is, but I am unsure of what, exactly will be expected of me.:confused3

I am starting to doubt myself now.

It's almost definate there will be a one2one interview which is the time to explain anything they need to know should you wish to do so.

In retail your likely to have to do some lifting (stacking shelves, transferring stock etc) and if this is something you can manage with your new medication then you'll be fine.

At the Disney store they have greeters aswell as till staff so you'll likely be rotated but not nesessary a couple of hours on each per shift, could be more of a one shift on this and the next one on that so you'll need to check that with them, perhaps this is a good question for the group stuff.

Thanks again Jodie:goodvibes

I think I will be ok with the stocking shelves and stacking boxes side, but I think it will really depend on how many hours per shift, and how many shifts per week are required As it is a part time position I figured I would be fine, but now I am worried.:headache:

Congratulations on getting the interview! They must really have considered you suitable for the role from the CV you provided, so well done!
I would also recommend, as others have, making sure that you are dressed smart-casual.
Personally, I wouldn't over-do it with the Disney clothing/accessories. I wouldn't put as much emphasis on making them physically notice that you are a Disney-head, but instead think of ways that you can verbally communicate your enthusiasm and love for their company :thumbsup2
Good luck, and keep us updated! :)

Thanks Netty, I have sent Karentan a PM.:goodvibes

Dollyrar - thank you for the words of encouragement:goodvibes

Congratulations on your interview - that's a fantastic start, and I wish you all the best with the process!

When it comes to what to wear, i agree that it should be on the smartish side with dark trousers and just a shirt maybe?? But like you say, comfort is also a priority :) and with regards to Disney stuff, maybe less is more? Your watch would be cool - the subtle things are the best IMO. I've always got my Minnie mouse watch on when working at the hospital :)

I've also done a group interview before but not for the Disney store so I assume it will be rather different. Anyhoo...during my group interview. Was under the impression that the employers were looking for good communication on a one to one basis, and also on a group basis. I feel group interviews are quite encouraging - just be yourself, be chatty, be attentive, and be interested in what tasks are going on. We had little tasks to do where we had to find out information from each other and then present it back to the group. We also had to do little selling exercises where we talked about products to the group too. Group interviews are definitely something different and an experience - albeit a good experience in my opinion :)

So, i would love to know how you get on! Sending you some lucky pixie dust pixiedust:

Good luck, im sure you will be fine:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

My advise would be to just wear whatever you feel comfortable in:yay:

Don't worry about the length of your post BethEJo, it was all welcome. Thanks for the information and good wishes:goodvibes

PJB71 - thank you for you support:goodvibes

Good luck - i had a group interview for disney a few years ago now and it was very friendly we had to do the usual introduce ourselves and say why we wanted to work for disney then we had to say which disney character we were most like and why? we had to do a few things with play dough and pictures but it was for the opening of a new store so im sure you wont have to do all that. Wish you loads of luck just be yourself and im sure you will do well - best job i ever had.
