I really want to give digital scrapping a try. DH just took a new job that will require we travel a lot. It will be impossible for me to take my scrap stuff with me. I know nothing about the art but am an accomplished paper scrapper. Where do I begin? :confused3. Can I do it on my iPad? Any suggestions for a newbie would be wonderful! :grouphug:

I saw this on my phone but never made it back here to answer :goodvibes

I use CM storybook to put my pages together. I have also used GIMP-its a free software that has loads of stuff. not as simple as CM storybook. I dont think that you will be able to do anything from an Ipad..... well it looks like you can http://myblogalicious.beblogaliciou...l-scrapbooking-on-your-ipad-iphone-or-itouch/ but it doesnt say if you can add things other than what the apps sell. I have been following a few, well a lot of designers on facebook and they often have have both facebook hops and blog hops several times a month, with loads of free goodies :cool1: I have collected a bunch of great stuff to use and have yet to buy a kit, although there are some great designers out there that have some Disney stuff that I have my eye on :)

You mentioned you followed a few designers on facebook and/or blog.... can you share them?

I am interested in starting some digital scrapbooking however, after doing paper seems overwhelming to me and could use some good direction :thumbsup2

I use studio J by close to my heart. I just started using anything digital and for the same reasons. I travel for work and at the moment I am driving and in hotel so I can do some paper stuff but I prefer to do cards and gifts with paper these days where I control the supplies I take to keep it fairly simple (although I'm stamping and take a ton of inks :()

They just changed over how they are doing things and don't require any memberships any more and have options to purchase the layouts or just the jpgs (if you order the layouts you get the jpgs too automatically I believe under the new plan). It is free to use to create layouts. I believe you'll need a link to get to it directly.

I was a skeptic about digital which is funny because my day job is a software consultant but studio j has great 'papers' and easy 'embellishments' and the quality of the printed layouts is so amazing - I really couldn't believe it.

If you need more info PM me and I can send to you or general questions I can answer here.

Good luck with whatever you choose to check out!

Thank you so much! Will give me a good place to start!! :thumbsup2

I do have another question if you do digital how do you add things like tickets, maps, letters, etc? Do you scan them and just place that way?

I also recommend Creative Memories Storybook Creator program. I have it loaded on my laptop and can scrap with it anywhere. It is really easy to learn, but has very sophisticated options. The newest version, v4, releases Sept 1.

The Studio J program is also good, but you can only use it online.

I haven't and dont plan to do any pages that have "stuff" :goodvibes I am going to save those for paper scrapping. I am mostly using it for pages that are just pics and embellies. like every day stuff, random photo's, events that there isnt anything for like the pumpkin patch, easter etc. Just catching up on small stuff so I can focus on the bigger stuff.

I would figure out how much space you need for them & leave that area blank (well whatever the background is) then add on later

Storybook 4 is already out. It's Memory Manager 4 that comes out 9/1.

I love Storybook. Use it a lot and have made fantastic pages with it. It is so easy and there is sooooooo much you can do with it. I get my albums done so much more quickly now. I also can put more photos in a book and the space that it takes up on a bookshelf is a fraction of what traditional is! Love it!

I use plain old photoshop elements. I can download anything and it will work in photoshop. For beginners I might suggest you google "free digital templates." There are tons and they allow you to get a feel for whatever program you are using. Also google "free digital (paper, embellishments, fonts, etc." I have hundreds of papers and embellishments and I have only spent maybe $5 ever. There is enough free stuff to keep you busy for a very long time.

I do have another question if you do digital how do you add things like tickets, maps, letters, etc? Do you scan them and just place that way?

For my pages I measure the item in question and then make an embellishment just smaller than the item. That way I can get a feel for my page without having to leave a large blank space and hope the item looks right there. If my fake embellishment is slightly smaller than the real item, I can paste the real item onto the page and it will cover the placeholder completely.

Oh and may I suggest you buy a good wide format printer. Constantly having to pay to print 12x12s can get REALLY expensive. My husband got me the printer a few years back for Christmas and I buy 12 inch wide paper by the roll.

I've been digital scrapping for a while now and use Photoshop Element 10. There are several photo editing software tools out there. You'll need a PC with as much storage and memory as you can get. Since you are storing everything on your computer now (papers, elements, templates, layouts, etc.) it takes up lots of space. On the web, you'll find lots of store, blogs, facebook accounts and other places that cater not only to digital scrappers, but to Disney focused digital scrappers. And lots of them offer freebies.

Have fun getting started.
