Hello Ladies

I am in a bit of a dilemma

I have my dress (all fits well, is at home and ready to go) But I tried it on the other night and realized that maybe, I should have a bustle ...? Now, when I was in the bridal shop, the lady said I didn’t need one, as I have the ‘wrist hoop’ so I can just hold my train ... but If I really wanted to, I could hook it up to the bottom of my corset. Now I tried this the other night and it DIDNT WORK, and I cant work out how it is meant to be attached- without my train getting all tangled up and creating a big poofy mess ... eeek!

Did you NOT have a bustle and just used your ‘wrist hoop’ – how did this work for you? Was this okay for you or did you wish you had a bustle? Do you have any photos to share of you dancing/walking around using your wrist hoop? (if this is actually the correct term for it!?)

I think I might be okay without a bustle and just picking the dress up using the wristlet but part of me thinks this might be a pain in the @ss? I might still have time to get a bustle put on the dress if need be, I just need thoughts!

Thank you all for any suggestions! x

i didn't have my wedding at disney but i had a bustle. It made it easier for dancing and walking around afterwards. I would be kinda iffy about using the "wrist loop" because depending on how they're made they break easily. My did and i only used it for picture before the ceremony.

It also depends on the dress. Could you tell us about your dress or post a pic for us to see and maybe we can give you some better advice after seeing it.

I had a train with a bustle but before my MOH put my train into the bustle I was using the wrist loop to walk around and take some pictures right after the ceremony. I actually had no idea I even had a wrist loop until my photographer told me about it!!!

The wrist loop worked well while I used it, but the dress was heavy and I wouldn't have wanted to bend down all night to pick up the wrist loop or continually hold it on my wrist ALL night. It becomes a bit burdensome.

Here are two pictures of me using the wrist loop from the back. Maybe it was because I wasn't using it correctly or just didn't care how I held it, but you could see the crinoline underneath, which I actually thought looked cool.

thanks ladies!

This is the back of the dress, and the hoop is right at the bottom of the train. It seems quite sturdy, but like @weedee stated, I doubt I would want to keep picking it up.

We arent having any dancing or anything, apart from the first dance 'shuffle'!

Do you think it would be okay NOT to have a bustle put in? If I did, where would they put it, as I can work out where they would do it to not make it obvious on the dress ...

Hi Stace!!! Glad to see you around again. I would highly suggest a bustle. I also had a wrist loop and if I had to use that all day long I would had been very annoyed. (look at the picture of Tom and I walking into the WP with monorail behind us...it is on my FB page and in my PJ..imagine doing that your entire wedding). By having a bustle after you and Wayne get married, you can have someone just bustle it up and you are free to go. Especially since you have a ballgown, it will be so heavy on your wrist and as Wendy said quite burdensome. Hope this helps. Oh and I really hope you come back after your wedding and do a trip report......:goodvibes

I had a bustle and about half way through the reception it broke while I was sitting down so I had to use the wrist hoop the rest of the night. It wasn't uncomfortable but I also didn't have a big dress so it wasn't a big deal.

If you do get a bustle added make sure it's sturdy and not just some flimsly thin string (like mine was). that way you'll know it'll last all night between standing/sitting and dancing.

Hey Steph!

Good thing is, the lady at my dress shop said I could attach the wristlet to the bottom of my corset to create a temp bustle ..BUT do you think we could do it when I tried it on the other night?! NO! We cant work out how its even possible to attach the wristlet without the dress getting all mangled up! I will need to go back to the shop (woah, what a drive!) and ask them to show me!

p.s I might come back... who knows!

I am pretty heavy handed and I would probably end up ripping the dress if I had a bustle... and obviously a flimsy one. Ill have to go to the shop to ask them if its possible - at least then ill have the option to bustle or use the wristlet ... thanks!

I would also recommend getting a bustle, I found it was kind of a pain to have the train just dragging on the floor and it was heavy when I had to hold it while we were walking to take pictures before the ceremony. Plus I think you'd just feel more comfortable with your hands free. ;)

You could also pin it up with a safety pin, I know a few girls who've done that if the button breaks. If you add I bustle, I would do a french bustle it uses string instead of buttons or hooks so it stays a little better. I didn't have any problems with mine, plus the french bustle is usually lower, so it's not as much in the way when you sit. If you do go for a regular bustle, the pin-up kind, make sure there is more than one button or hook.

I also hope you'll come back and share some details about your day. :goodvibes

I'm very thankful my dress had a bustle. It was very heavy and got very dirty on the Boardwalk.

I would absolutely have a bustle put on. My dress style was very full like yours and when it wasn't bustled, people accidently stepped on it. It also gets really dirty, the bottom of my dress was black and the only time my train touched the ground was when we were in doors. And after a while, even with it bustled, the dress gets heavy (at least mine did, lol).

The loop that is on the back of the dress isn't actually made to be a wrist loop, it will work that way if you want it to but that's not what its there for. I got my dress through a friend who owns a bridal salon and said that the only purpose of the loop is to hang the dress up on a hanger, that's why you can see the crinoline underneath if you use it that way. HTH

I think it depends on what type of wedding you're having. We had an Escape (then called Intimate) and it was the ceremony, cake cutting, toast, and inside and outside the WL for pictures. We did not have dancing and I didn't have to walk very far for pictures or for dinner. My gown had a cathedral train and I used the wrist thing and sometimes just carried the train over my arm. It worked fine, although it did get heavy toward the end. I love that all of my pictures have my gorgeous train spread out! If we had to walk far for pictures, for a dinner, or if we had a proper reception with dancing, I would have gotten a bustle; as it was I didn't need it and it would have been a waste of money to have one.

I had a cathedral train and had a french bustle. One thing the bridal shop did that I loved, is they used snap hooks to clip it up and color-coordinated the clips so my MOB and WP knew how to clip it. And that sucker never came loose - I danced and went up and down steps and I never had to worry about it.

Was it a pain to use the wrist hoop during your MK Photo Shoot too? I am also on the fence, my appt to get the bustle is tomorrow and DF is pushing me to do it (after I explained what it was! :rotfl:) because he thinks it will be a pain to carry the train around so early in the morning - regardless of how small it is. :)

The only thing that bothered me about holding it by the wrist loop during my MK shoot was that sometimes I, DH, or the photographer's assistant forgot to pick it up and then I would drag on the dirty/wet floor. My dress didn't get dirty at all on the wedding day but the train was filthy by the time I got back from the MK shoot. I haven't taken it to get cleaned yet but I will soon bc I plan on selling it on eBay.

Thanks for the feedback! DF might be right - at that time of the morning I know I will forget to pick it up!! :surfweb:

I would do as bustle for all the reasons that everyone mentioned. Just make sure you get alot of pictures with the train down also. I did not bustle my dress during our DP and the MK shoot. I had a very long train and I wanted pictures of the train in both the DP and MK pictures. I did like having it during our reception and we did have alot of dancing and up and down and I loved that it was out of the way.
