Help! DH refusing ECV at DLR for temporary disability

I'm really late getting back to this thread but I wanted to apologize for any offense I may have inadvertently caused. To be more clear, I intended to say that I agree with an earlier poster's observation in her blog that folks seemed to resent people in ECVs as they assume that these are all "able-bodied" people who can walk but either want to skip in line or just can't walk the distances at DLR (which may or may not be related to obesity).

Those guests in real wheelchairs seem to be those who are always in wheelchairs and not using the convenience of an ECV (even if they didn't have an obvious physical disability). That is why I was so surprised to see a woman in a wheelchair (which I'm guessing is rented) standing for 30+ minutes while wearing 5+ inch heels during WOC while various family members took turns sitting in her chair.

OT: A rented wheelchair (or scooter) is excellent for a temporary disability.

(Owning one is excellent for a permanent disability.)

So glad you were able to convince your DH to use an ECV. I had a similar experience in 2007 at WDW when we finally got my unhappy, complaining DH with severe scoliosis to finally try renting one for Epcot. What a difference after literally years of trying to explain to him that this was not giving in but making things manageable!

Now we will rent one from an off-site supplier for our entire 8 days in Florida in December. Instead of staying back in the room so much he will be with with us and he will be happy!
