Help.. DH didn't like food... need suggestions!

Our lunch at SciFi was really good... we each had a reuben sandwich, one with fries, one with a melon salad. And the atmosphere was really fun!

We were pleasantly surprised by Garden Grill in The Land in Epcot. I had read iffy reviews of the food, but got a good time slot for the Candlelight Processional dinner package. The food was really tasty, normal "American" fare, and we left stuffed!

It's family style, not buffet, but you get all you can eat. Started with a salad and bread/butter. Then came the main platter with: roast beef w/ brown gravy; turkey w/ cranberry sauce; dressing; fried catfish; broccolini and baby carrots. Oh, and a big bowl of mashed potatoes. The server was attentive with our drink refills, and brought out anything we wanted more of.

And it was followed by a yummy apple skillet dessert with fresh whipped cream on top.

With Mickey, Chip & Dale, and Pluto wandering around the tables, everyone had a great time. We were in one of the outward-facing booths, and it circled from the lobby area to the overlook into the "Living With the Land" ride. Fun and different.

You need to go to other restaurants or he'll not want to go again!!! Make his stomach happy!!!!

My DH loves Ohana's, Kona, California Grill, Teppanyaki for starters- don't make the food about the kids - they can have chicken nuggets or burgers or whatever they want in these restaurants - plus its good practice for manners, etc. I have to say that we've had some of the best meals ever at WDW and we like to eat good food - plus all the restaurants have different atmospheres its fun to try them!!!!

We love the character meals but we only do them for breakfast - that seems to make DH happy and then he is happy bringing his DW to WDW again and again.

This trip we are trying Jiko, Le Cellier for instance.

Look at the pictures and the menus and have fun with it.

We ate at the Turf Club at SSR on our last trip. I was really pleased with our dinner, so was my DH - (he likes a nice steak). We sat out on the patio. It was so lovely! Inside it seemed a bit more lively. They do hobby horse races down the middle of the dining room.

The service was wonderful and the food was great too. I don't eat meat and I was tired of pasta. The chef came to the table with a whole bunch of ideas for me. He came back later to see how I liked it.

We also love the California Grill. We try to go there every trip. There are lots of families with kids. It is definitely worth the money if you can swing it. The view is fabulous. We usually go around 6, have dinner and then go to the arcade for a bit. Then when the fireworks are about to start we go back up to the roof to watch them. It is so much better than eating late and watching the fireworks from the table (IMHO).

I agree with getting your DH's input on the meals. You can show him the menus online or get a disney book like the unofficial guide. It is one of the ways I converted my DH to a Disney lover.

I don't think anyone has mentioned Biergarten yet. They have lots of meat (sausage, roast meat, etc.), german potato salad, and pretzel bread. I think that it is really "meat and potatoes guy" friendly! Dad can get a beer and the kids can watch the entertainment/band. This is a buffet, but a little different that the typical mashed potatoes/carved meat/mickey pasta you see everywhere else.

If you can figure out transportation, I'd second Jiko for his b-day dinner. The filet and mac n cheese is very very good and not scary for a "meat and potato guy."

For good steak dinner try one of the following TS restaurants:

Le Cellier - EPCOT
Yachtsman Steakhouse - Yacht Club
Brown Derby - DHS
Narcoosie's - GF
Turf Club - SSR
Artist Point - Wilderness Lodge

Also try Boma for variety buffet. Best buffet at WDW.

Playhouse Disney at Hollywood and Vine: none of us liked this one at all! The wait was HORRIBLE compared to the others and the food was worse than any of the other buffets.

I think Hollywood & Vine was one of the worst places we ever ate so I can understand where your DH was coming from on this one.

Have not eaten CS at your resort, but in general, we probably won't eat many of our CS at our resort. A couple breakfasts, that's it. The rest of our trip we'll use snacks for breakfast and save our CS credits for early lunches at the ones I want to try in the parks!

At Epcot, I think we'll try Sunshine Seasons, but that's a tough choice for me because all the countries seem to have great choices!

AK, I want to try Flame Tree BBQ AND Pizzafari (one will have to wait till next trip)

MK, I kinda want to try Columbia Harbor House (heard great things)

HS, well, that is one of the days we'll have breakfast at the resort

Last time we ended up eating way too many run-of-the-mill CS meals at the resort due to poor planning on my part. A mistake I do not plan on duplicating!

Have you considered checking the kids in at one of the kids clubs (Mouseketeer Clubhouse, Neverland Club, etc.), then you and your dh go on a date, to an adult restaurant? Citrico's or for 1 TS, Le Cellier.

My dh loves the yum yum's at Disney I know what we like and I know what "he" likes. So, I always make sure we have Le Cellier, Boma's (on a Saturday night, for ribs), O'hana and Crystal Palace. On our trip in May we are planning to dine at,

50's Primetime (Hollywood Studios)
Spoodles (Boardwalk)
Le Cellier (EPCOT)
Boma (Animal Kingdom Lodge)

I only included the location for each restaurant because you said this will be your second trip and I know, when I first started going to Disney, knowing where everything is was a little bit of an issue for me. I heard of all these great places, but forgot where they were

I'm sure he'll be referring to the food at Disney, as yum yums, the way my dh does, in no time

My pick for steak is at Kona Cafe followed by LeCellier.
Kids will also like Kona with the dessert (some Ice Cream thing, my DS loved, its a "big deal")

POR food court has lots of choices, both healthy and not so healthy, you can make pasta dishes to your own likings and also salads the same way. Theres of course the burgers pizza too, sandwiches, etc. Check out the menu section for specifics.. (what I MISS is the taco bar!)
Anyhoo, its a good counter service, I heard one of the best actually.

The added bonus is that the restaurant is also yummy, especially at breakfast.
Also, if you do stay there be sure the kids see Piano Bob. They'll have a nice time (free show at night) and you guys can have a drink or even tea/coffee, they are very accommodating.

Wherever you choose, have a GREAT vacation and Early Happy Birthday to the hubby!
By the way, he gets in FREE for his B/day, I heard you can get something else if you already have tickets for a park that day!
I spent a whirlwind birthday surprise weekend (from NY) and it is one of my fondest memories of Disney, so special to be there on your Bday!

Try staying at PORS. This is one of our favorite resorts. We prefer the Bayou to the Mansions. It can be a good walk to the main building, but very relaxing atmosphere.

The CS has great variety and TS Boatwrights is a great restaurant for breakfast and we have also eaten dinner there. The ribs are really good.

Also Piano Bob in the River Roost is worth seeing. This can be very loud, but is a fun time. Get a Mudslide and enjoy.

We loved the food at POR. My family is very picky. There were tons of choices at the food court including pizza, pasta station, turkey/roast beef carving station. Breakfast was great too. Lots of different choices; waffles, pancakes, french toast, made to order omelets, pastries.

POR has one of the best CS restaurants.
The food was alway consistantly good--I love
the "Create your own Pasta" I could eat that for
every Meal. I even walked over to POR from POFQ just
to eat at the CS--It is so worth it!

We ate at 50s PT and my Fish was good--I just was not
in the mood to play along with the little skit--it was very
annoying--I just wanted to eat in peace.
I was full after eatting appetizer and part of my entree' and they
will push the desert on you making you look foolish for not
completely eatting all on your plate. You have to like to be
put on the spot and picked on.
I just couldn't wait to get out
of that place. Most people like 50's PT so that's why I
decided to try it, I've learned my lesson.

We are food snobs that avoid a lot of one credit meals....but here are some you might want to try that I would do again.

Both breakfast and dinner at Spoodles is good - do it on a Studios or Epcot day (its at the Boardwalk) - 1 credit. I'd do dinner over breakfast. No characters, no buffet.

Kona isn't bad. I was a little disappointed, but its pretty good for 1 credit.

Le Cellier is pretty good for a credit - we've had great and bad meals here, but consistantly better than buffets. It is hard to get a reservation at however.

Teppan Edo is great for a credit - its a Japanese teppan place - but that just means that they chop up the steak and put a little terriyaki on it and serve it with rice and veggies. Fun for kids to watch the chef, good food.

Whispering Canyon Cafe is loud and noisy - but the food is pretty good and very "meat and potatos." If your husband can stand the activity, he may like the food.

ETA: The two buffets I might do are Biergarten and Boma. Boma was very disappointing the first time because it had been over hyped, but its pretty good for a buffet. As is Biergarten. As a rule, I'm buffet-o-phobic - I find food served from warming dishes to be sort of disgusting as a rule.

For counter service - the ribs at FlameTree BBQ in AK and Cosmic Rays in MK are good and huge. Epcot we like to head back to the Norway bakery for sandwiches. The burger bar at either Pecos Bills or Cosmic Rays or the burger place at the Studios (Backlot?) is worth doing once per trip - burgers aren't great, but when you load them down they are pretty good. Cosmic Rays does a good half chicken, too. Fish and Chips from the window in the UK in Epcot are pretty good.
