Help! Deluxe Dining or Poly?

I am planning a surprise mini-break after our wedding. We aren't going to go on a honeymoon until next summer due to wedding costs, but I was able to add a leg onto our delta skymiles tickets with no extra cost and I got a great rate at the WL, so I'm going to surprise my FI with a disney mini-honeymoon!

Right now we're booked at the WL, but I am mulling over two choices. We can either stay at the WL and do the deluxe dining plan (I'm bummed that they changed it, by the way) or for the same amount to upgrade to the Deluxe....

we can stay at the Poly and do the regular dining plan.

Any thoughts?

I love WL and although some may not agree, I think the Deluxe Dining is a great convenience. I think that's the better deal than staying at the Poly and paying for all your meals.

I don't think either dining plan is a very good deal; depends on how you eat, though. If you are really, really big eaters it may be worth it.

I love the Poly, but Wilderness Lodge is beautiful. I would stick with WL. We have stayed at the Poly, but only visited WL, because with a family of five we would have to get two rooms at WL! I envy you the choice...

how about neither and put the money into saving for your house.

But we live in Southern CA so a house is a million years away! With free airline tickets and a great discount on the rooms we'll end up spending less than $1200 for the whole 4 night trip (minus additional expenses of course!).

what about perhaps a small compromise, stay at WL on the regular plan, and use the spare $$$ for pampering at GF spa, or to do a couple of the tours?

There is so much food on the plans, that we struggled even on the regular plan.

just a thought

The deluxe DDP would be worth it if you eat at a table service for
bkfst or lunch.....and a signature dinner or show.

Honestly you'll be spending a lot of time in restaurants....it won't matter
where you stay.....I would stick with WL though....the place is awesome.

I'm trying the deluxe for part of my next trip.....I'm finding it hard to fit
everything in.

I would go with the regular dining plan (more than enough food) and stay at the Poly. Of course the tropical theme appeals to me more than the great outdoors, just a personal preference.

With so much to do at Disney, I would go with the regular dining plan. This was more than enough food for us. This will give you more flexibility with use of time for your day. You do not want to be tied down each day twice running to ressies. The Poly is beautiful... but I am not an outdoors adventurous person either. Best wishes!

I would do Polynesian and regular DDP. I've done the regular one and still had credits left over b/c it was too much food.

WL and DxDP would be the way we would go for sure! The WL is beautiful and we are trying the DxDP our next trip. Can't wait!

With being your Disneymoon, I would stay at WL and do Deluxe dining. Having the extra TS credits means you will be able to do the most romantic TS in the World. All the good one are two credits and with the Deluxe plan you can do the really good ones. My hubby and I Disneymooned 13 years ago and are going for our 1st trip back without our kids and we are staying at Boardwalk and doing Deluxe dining.

Was that really necessary:mad:? Not everyone wants to own a house and if I was the OP I would find your comment rude and unwelcomed. We're getting married this year and I'm tired of everyone assuming that all newlyweds want to buy a house.

Now on to your question CMD:thumbsup2 . Have you looked at the restaurants that you think you'll want to eat at? We're honeymooning there too and by the grace of God we received a 30% pin code so we upgraded from AKL savannah view to a Poly garden view. However, we're also on the DxDDP. DFI and I love table services for breakfast and dinner. When we go to other amusement and theme parks, we eat a big breakfast, snack throughout the day, and then eat dinner. We're going to use our snack credits throughout the day at the parks and save our lunch CS/TS credit if you will to do some signature dinning restaurants. I believe we can do up to 3 signatures with our plan or maybe 4 if we actually leave the world and go to Universal Studios. So I guess I'm saying if your like us then stick with WL and do DxDDP. But if your not big on TS then upgrade and do DDP.

Either way it goes, congrats on your wedding and have a great mini-moon at Disney. :cheer2:

I found this to be a very rude comment imo. A $1200 trip isn't going to make or break buying a home. I'd 100% be doing the trip too! Live up your mini moon planning a wedding you deserve a trip away together.

I do not have any advice but have a fantastic mini moon in Disney! Congrats on the upcoming wedding.

Thanks everyone for all your thoughts so far!

As far as the dining plan, we've done the regular one for the past three years. We usually share a counter service lunch one day, do one counter service dinner and then do the rest table service dinners with one signature dinner on the last night.

Last night FI was missing disney (whenever he's stressed he likes to talk about disney!) and so I mentioned that I read the dining plan changed -- luckily I could get his opinion right away! He likes the idea of the regular dining plan bc we never eat big lunches or breakfasts. That said, I upgraded to the Poly today (I am so excited bc we've stayed at the WL the past three years!) and think we'll do the regular dining plan. If we get sprinkled with some pixie dust and end up having extra $ it would be nice to upgrade to the DDP just for this occasion!

Yay for poly.

Hi

Just remember you have to pay TIP for all of your TS. :scared1: We went last month, and ended up canceling some of our reservations just because of this. Just some food for thought.

BTW, We had the deluxe DDP (SO MUCH FOOD!!!!!)

HAVE A GREAT TIME!!
:yay:
