Help Deciding on My First Visit Home

I own at SSR and had planned to have my first visit home to there when hurricane Frances came through Florida. Because I work for a Local Government agency here in Central FL, I had to cancel my vacation to work in the Emergency Operations Center.

I also had booked a vacation in November (11/11-11/14) for a short stay at BCV for the FWF. Now with my penalty points, I am adding onto my stay in November. Here is my dilemma/question:

I booked BWV one bedroom preferred (11/7-11/10) with a waitlist for my home resort at SSR for the same time. I just got a call that my waitlist for SSR just came through. Should I switch from BWV to SSR? Is one resort better than the other?

Either way, I still am switching over to BCV 11/11 so I will be able to walk in/out of Epcot to my hotel room for the FWF.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I haven't been on a real vacation since my Disney cruise in May of 2003, so I want to make sure this is special for me and my husband.

:D

I know we really enjoy staying in the Epcot area becuase you can quickly get to epcot and MGM. We also enjoy going to DTD so - I don't know how to answer your dilema. But wherever you stay you will have fun and you can go back and try the other resorts later!

I'd give SSR a look. The rooms themselves really are the most luxurious (discounting the additional square footage at OKW) of the DVC resorts.

Honestly, I don't think you can go wrong with either resort, but I couldn't bear staying elsewhere if given the opportunity to try my "home" at SSR. ;)

Well, it seems that right now you've got both ressies at Epcot resorts during F&W. Do you really want to be further away from the Fest and Epcot during that period. You will have plenty of time (maybe 50 yrs even) to stay at SSR, and availability there is only gonna get better as new buildings come on line. IMO you ought to stick with what you have.

And I'm sure all your neighbors are glad and proud of the job you and your colleagues did during Charley, Frances and Jeanne and their aftermaths. Let's hope things calm down for a few years before events give you too many more of these calamities.

Good luck!

Since it is your home resort, there would certainly seem some incentive to check it out.....

Thomasville furnishings...Kohler faucets...granite countertops...custom design sofabeds...floor-to-ceiling windows.

Need I go on?

Have you even seen one of the rooms? If so, which resort do you consider to have more luxurious in-room accommodations (discounting the additional space in OKW, as stated)?

If it were me....

I'd have a hard time picking between being lazy and just leaving my reservation where it is.

Or being anxious for a first visit to my "home" resort.

(Since SSR has no appeal to me, regardless of the brand of coffee table or the geologic origin of the countertops, personally, I'd stay at BWV - but if I had purchased SSR, I'd likely feel differently about it).

(Carpeted air conditioned interior halls, room service, sit down restaurants... Yes, I think its an arguable point, depending on what you are looking for in "luxury." Personally, I could care less what brand of coffee table is in the room - as long as its decent quality - and they all appear to be better than IKEA.)

I couldn't resist the urge to try our "home" so I would take the SSR ressie! We visited it for the open house on Saturday and now, we're very much looking forward to our 1 night stay, to try it out, in December.

I said "THE ROOMS", Crisi. Not debating the issue of amenities, dining, location, blah, blah, blah.

BTW, in case you really hadn't considered it, the possibility does actually exist that the quality of the room's furnishings matters more to OTHER people than a 2 minute walk in a hallway. ;)

Stay at "home." I know I had a similar question going in my own mind, and I decided it would be best to get attached to my "home" first. If I stayed somewhere else on my first DVC tript, I might wish I had bought in there instead. You want that all important first impression and imprint to be at your own "home" resort, or so it would seem to me.

I love the Boardwalk... it is my favorite onsite resort....

With that said, I would stay at SSR for the first part of your trip.

First, you have to move regardless.... so why not move to a whole new area.... different feel.... close to diferent things... Spend the first 1/2 of your trip doing stuff around DTD, Second 1/2 focus in on MGM and Epcot.

Keep us posted!

Coming from and enthusiastic Saratoga owner, go home! I was just there last week. It was my first time home & all I can do is wish I was still there. My husband and I originally had a reservation at BCV because we were planning on staying at SSR in December. Due to Frances, the trip got pushed back and we ended up at SSR. We never had a second thought about BCV. We will stay there someday, but not anytime soon. Not saying ANYTHING bad about BCV, we just fell in love with SSR. I think there is always a certain pride that comes with owning a resort.

I'll tell you what we loved and you can see if it makes your decision any easier... The view of DTD is quite lovely at night. We found that staying at SSR is actually like having your own bus depot close by. If we wanted to have dinner at Boma and then return to SSR it was easy! We just took a bus to DTD and walked back to SSR. We really love Cirque Du Soleil so having it "in our backyard" was amazing. We had a lovely walk to Cirque on the night that we saw the show. We also love shopping. Being close the the stores was also a big plus for us. We enjoyed the variety of food nearby also. At night we tend to gravitate to the pool and hot tub. We found the feature pool empty most nights after 9:30 or so. We felt like we had the whole resort to ourselves!

When we went to Epcot the first few days of the food festival, it was crawling with people, obviously! I'm thinking that there are going to be tons of people around the BCV area during the festival, so be warned.

One last tip. We really loved the bus situation staying at Saratoga. All of the resorts near BCV....Boardwalk, Swan and the Dolphin share buses (depending on where you're coming from) Saratoga services Saratoga ONLY! We thought it was great!

I guess by now you've figured out why my husband and I love our new home. If you choose to stay at BCV you will have a great trip. If you choose to stay at SSR, you will have a great trip! I guess you can't lose on this one. I hope what I've said can help you in the future!

My opinion is that since you'll be going over to Beach Club for Food & Wine then I would go to your SSR home.

We toured it during Member Homecoming and it looks like a very nice resort. I'm sure we'll stay there some day.

Enjoy your first visit home no matter where it is!

Well....we made the desicion! We switched over to SSR for our first visit home instead of BWV. I really like all of the resorts...so we know we can't go wrong with staying here first, then visiting BWV next year.

Thank you for all of your input. I LOVE THIS BOARD!!!
