I can't figure out what to do about it this time. It's just hair and it will grow back, eventually. About 2 years ago she managed to cut her hair twice. She was given a time out and scissors were taken up and away where they still live to this day. She got a hold of my very sharp nail wrap scissors from my nail supplies. It's how sharp and dangerous the scissors are that bothers me about this and not what her hair looks like....I'm thankful she still has eyes!

I gave her the guilt trip of her life and said I might have to cut all her hair off...which she got quite upset about...I'm thinking about using that to my advantage. Anyway, I can get it up in a pony tail with some clips and it looks just fine. But I did make an appointment to have it evened out. Should I keep the appointment and have him cut it "short"...maybee she'll learn her lesson? Or continue to put it up until it grows out a bit?

Not sure what to tell you..only wanted to give you support... as I have had the hair thing happen.... DD6 (when she was 3) cut her hair.... shortly before recitals....:rolleyes1 We were able to "make it work".

I should also mention that DH is NOT allowed to cut the girls bangs ANYMORE! Came home one day to find daughters bangs So short and crooked there was not much I could do about it. They did grow out but the pics of the next few months..... yeah lets just say that we will always remember that cut...because you cannot miss it in the pics. :rotfl2:

Dd5 did this a few month ago. Her hair was all one length, and she cut bangs. She was so upset! I brought her to my salon, and she fixed it so well, that I liked her hair better than before! :thumbsup2

This happened at our house once. DD13 was about 5 and DD 11 was about 2 and DD13 cut DD11 hair vvvveeerrryyyy short(down to the scalp in a lot of places) :scared1: My husband said he never saw anything like it I morphed right in front of him into someone he had never seen before I freaked out on both of the girls. There was a little bit of spanking and yelling going on that day, but they never did it again.:scared1: You have to make the punishment memorable I guess we can finally now laugh about it but it took a long time and when DD11 sees pics of herself (yes I was a mean mother I took a lot:rotfl: ) she cries.

Why do kids do this:sad2: . My DD9:angel: has done it 6 times. The last time just 4mos ago. The child didn't grow hair until she was 2, then when it dose grow she cuts it. Never when I'm home always when my mom, g-ma or brother had her. She had "boy cuts" until she was 5 then a pixie cut, now her hair is to the middle of her back. She also cut my g-ma's hair. Take her to the salon and see what they can do, it's just hair it WILL grow back. Good luck!

As I discovered when DD did this when she was 5 every little girl has done this once (or twice).

As I went to get my DD ready for ballet I thought she had tucked her long (mid-back) blond hair behind her ears. As I went to put it up I realized she had cut the entire side of her head to about 1"! When I started to freak I breathed and asked what she did. "Nothing." - Love that one.

Well. We ended up with a Tinkerbell pixie cut. She looked adorable and actually started a trend at her school. After she cut her long hair 5 other girls in her class got their hair cut within the month. To tell the truth is was so much easier to take care of. No fights over brushing it out each morning and putting it up. Her ballet teacher wasn't thrilled but, oh well. :)

She vowed never to cut her hair again. Three years later we now keep it to just above shoulder length and everyone is happy.

My son did this one time with a razor blade when he was 4 1/2. We were visiting my sister, so my nephew (then 12 or 13) took him to his room to show him the models he was working on. Apparently he had the blade there for trimming the pieces, but my son took it and took a huge chunk out of his hair. I freaked - not so much about the hair, but how it could have been so much worse. My nephew felt absolutely horrible about it all, but once I calmed down I reassured him that it was a lesson learned for all of us, and that we weren't upset with him.

My former SD did this twice!!! The first time her mom left it alone until we got her a few days later, my mom is a hairdresser. She ended up with boy short hair just to even it out. The 2nd time was right before she was to be a flower girl in her uncle's weddint. That time her mom called me, late at night, sooooo angry!!! They took her to the salon up there to get it fixed well enough to put up for the wedding, but when she came down to our house a week and a half later, her mom told me to have my mom chop it all off again. SD was NOT happy, she was about 5 this time and it was embarassing because it was SUPER short.

We just went through this with my dd (3) she cut off the side of her hair one night (found a pair of scissors in the couch my sister gave me), we had it evened out. Then a few nights later she cut her baby brother's hair, not a lot and thankfully you can't tell because his hair is short anyway. She's grounded from scissors again and can not have them and that makes her really mad. Oh the brother incident was that she promised to never cut her hair again. She's now promised to never cut anyone's hair unless she becomes a professional.

From a Mom that has been there twice, and a hairdresser, If it goes up in a pon tail OK for going out, let it grow in.....
I think she really thought she was "styling" her hair and doing a great job.

Bribe her that if she promises not to style her own hair again, you will allow her to go to a hairstylist and pick a style. That will reward her for not cutting.

But, if it is chopped, and you just want to blend the chopped parts, that seems fair, But cutting really short could be trumatic.
I had too many kids that were in that position and I volunteered to try a fix. If they were not happy with it I would trim again shorter,
I just hated to see all these little girls with pixie cuts and tears.

My dd, took her bangs in her fist and cut againt the scalp. I blended a bit to what was left out, and let the short pieces underneath. She was in school and pictures were a month away. They were short but OK. I am sure someday she will blame me that I had cut them too short to her own kids,

Hope her hair grows fast. Remember, all kids do this....like playing in their poo

My DD did this, just after turning 3. I found her hiding behind the toybox, then saw a PILE of hair. I did not handle it well. I started screaming "What did you do?" And of course she was crying hysterically because she knew she was in big trouble. DH had still been in bed, and came flying down the stairs, fully expecting to find somebody lying in a pool of blood. :rotfl: He took one look at us both and said, "honey, it's just hair," before going back to bed.

Most of my friends' little girls have given themselves "makeovers" as well. It happens, and hair grows back. I didn't even really punish my DD because she was already so upset. I was a little worried because her new cut (a bob, just above her chin) was soooo cute, and everybody commented on it. I wanted to make sure she knew she could not do it again, even if she did help me find a cuter hairstyle for her. :) We spent a lot of time reiterating that ONLY Miss Lisa was allowed to cut her hair, and that she had to go to special hair-cutting school first. Big girls only use scissors ONLY on paper, etc.

DD5 did this last year. She cut her bangs - just a little too short. She didn't do too much damage. But she has very fine, thin hair and hates to have it rolled so I told her she had to roll it now all the time to make it look decent. It ended up being a good thing because now she lets me roll her hair without complaining. She used to fight me when I would roll her hair for church. With the curls, it covered up where it was crooked.
