My DD was trying on her batting helmet for t-ball and let's just say it is really snug. Well her earring backs got pushed into the back of her ear. They probaly went through almost half way. I got the backs off and cleaned her ears with peroxide. Is there anything else I should be doing? I just feel so bad for her. After they heal will I need to get them repierced or will I just be able to put her piercers back in?

depends on how they heal.

Keep it clean and steril. other than that theres nothing you can do till it heals.

you may be able to push them back through, but you could repierce them yourself. (I've done it)

When did she get them pierced? What sort of starter earrings are they?

She has had them pierced for about 2 years and we have never had any problems until tonight. I think her starters are 14k ones from Claire's. They still have the point on them.

So if I understand it correctly, the earring back is stuck inside her earlobe?
that happened to my daughter as well.

The holes were pretty big and the back went inside the hole. then the back had to be fished out with sterilized tweezers!

Anyway, the earring holes closed up and we repierced them 2 years later.

I had my earring go into my lobe when I was 12. WE went to the doctor to have it pulled out from the back b/c the hole closed on top of it :(.

When I was cleared to wear earrings again (about 1-2 weeks later....I really have no idea how long I had to not wear the earring)--it closed up and I had to repierce it.

However--I had to do this b/c they had to rip the earring from the back. So when the wound healed--the hole closed entirely.

But as long as new skin is back--no raw skin or scabs--it is safe to wear earrings.

You'll know if you need it repiercedif you can't get it through any skin at all. If you can put the post in a good distance--you can repierce yourself. Remember to treat it like you would freshly pierced earrings.

The only thing about using starters--the posts are usually thicker than regular earrings. Once you stop wearing them--the hole can no longer accomodate them. If that is what you will use when the lobe heals--it may be better to just go and get it repierced professionally.

Ok, so you should be ok. I'd just keep them clean, they should still be open.

Thanks everyone, I was pretty freaked out for a minute. I hope because we caught it right away we won't have any problems.

I tend to not wear earrings for awhile then get in a mood for them. I have put my starters (actually I went and bought new ones recently) in to get my holes open and readjusted to earrings again. They hurt a little becuase they are bigger then regular earring, but if I even think my ear is slightly infected I use them. I would treat it like they were just newly pierced again. Keep them clean and treated. I know I picked up some kind of solution when I purchased my new "studs" that seemed to help with pain and such. I can't remember what it is right off, but you usually get it when you first get your ears pierced.
IF they start looking infected though you should call your doctor.Good luck!

Something similar happened to my DD a few years back (she has the worse luck with pierced ears...this is our third attempt and let's just say the third time hasn't been a charm). My DD had small post type earrings in and the actual earings went into her ears. I guess the earrings were just too small. We finally got them out (not fun!) and let them close up.

Just keep them cleaned. You may want to let them close up depending on how they do.

Good luck!
