(our answers are right here in this thread)
You can now start to collect free svg files on your computer. SVG stands for Scaleable Vector Graphic. (Scale-able, in that you can make it as large as you want and it will not get all pixel-ated with jagged edges)
Go to miss kates cuttables, and she posts a free svg file every day. Just download the folder and put it on a thumb drive for your DD, and by Christmas time you will have collected over 30 free files.
Also, create an account at the silhouette online store
http://www.silhouetteonlinestore.com/ Each Tuesday they post a free .studio file. (the .studio files are what the silhouette studio software saves their files as) You can start collecting those files too.
Silhouette Studio (SS) is the free software that even you can download to check it out. To upgrade to the Silhouette Studio Designer Edition (SSDE), the retail price is $50, but can often be found for $25-30. the main reason needed for the upgrade is the ability to open svg files directly.
Also, another great place to get free svg files is on the Sure Cuts a Lot forum (that's another forum that used that software which can be used on the Silhouette products, but not really needed if you have the SS or SSDE. Also SVGCuts.com provides some free files too.
And a great place to see what else, beside scrapbooking for the silhouette, (such as card making) is Under A Cherry Tree blog.
If you don't want to buy the SSDE, their is a work around, but it involves using inkscape (a free program) to convert any svg file to another file extenstion (.dxf) and the SS will open .dxf files.
I hope we are not providing too much information, but enough to get you excited for this purchase! And don't forget the awesome print and cut the Silhouette can do, along with the great vinyl cuts!
