We stayed deluxe for the first time last year at my dream resort of YC, and now I've been ruined!!! I'm afraid the bar has been set way high and I'm trying not to be jaded about our trip next year, so I'm beseeching the WL lovers to tell me why WL is the BEST!!! :thumbsup2

We picked WL for a number of logical reasons that I have to admit are overwhelming:
1. price (we'll save almost $400... that's the cost for one adult DDP!)
2. location (with 7 and 1 yo DDs, MK will probably be our most frequented park)
3. DH and I both love Yellowstone and the Tetons, so the 'feel' intrigued us
4. to try something new (he wasn't thrilled about trying YC b/c he thought it was too stuffy, but we both loved it)
5. can't do SAB with 1 yo (at least can't do it WELL) so let's save it for a later trip

I know there is a lot to love about WL, and I guess I want to see those things rather than the practical list. So, what are the niche things about WL you love that make it just as awesome as the other deluxes???

We have stayed at both the YC and WL. The WL is our absolute favorite resort.

While the location of YC can't be beat, it is more just like a really nice hotel, whereas the WL is a destination. Seriously, the WL is an attraction in itself. It's so beautiful and well themed. We loved how peaceful it was, especially walking back in there after a night at the parks...it was just like...home...:lovestruc

You can see the EWP from WL. We actually preferred the pool a WL. SAB is nice but we have two young girls, one an ok swimmer and one just learning and SAB just made it difficult for us all to hang together.

WL has a quick service restaurant which is nice. YC doesn't have that. While you can't beat walking to the parks like you do at YC, the transportation at WL was great too. 5 minute bus to MK, or take the boat. You can also hop on the boat to CR and catch the monorail and that opens all of the shipping and dining options of the monorail resorts.

Obviously the rooms are a bit smaller at WL, but we are a family of four and just found it to be cozy.

There is literally nothing we didn't like about WL, and I think you may be pleasantly surprised. :goodvibes

We haven't stayed at the YC, but have stayed one time at the BC and two times at the WL. Our BC stay was prior to our WL stay and while we liked the BC, we absolutely LOVED the WL. We love the WL for the following reasons:

- resort and grounds are beautiful
- the lobby is gorgeous and is a nice place to relax while taking in the beautiful atmosphere
- Roaring Forks is great for quick CS meals/snacks
- the pool is fun
- the boat is convenient to MK and is also a nice relaxing ride
- the boat is convenient to the CR for a variety of dining options (and you can hop on the monorail to visit the Poly and GF)

We love everything about the WL and had great stays each time and wouldn't hesitate to stay there again :goodvibes.

See, this is why I love the DIS: you have given me more to focus on than the basic description on WDW`s website. :-)

I do like how you say YC is a hotel but WL is a destination; part of why I booked it was because with such a little one, I knew we`d have more resort time, so I am feeling more upbeat about being able to just `stop and smell the flowers` where we are and not feel like we should be off running around somewhere.

Thanks for the great intangible but still very valid reasons!

There is a little bridge in the lobby right when you get out of the elevators. It goes over the brook that leads outside. Kids are OBSESSED with going over that bridge a million times....I'm sure your daughter will be too :rotfl2:

You will really have a wonderful time! :goodvibes

We're in the opposite situation....we love, love, love WL, but are giving YC a try this time to be walking distance to Epcot.

You'll love WL - the lobby, the atmosphere, the grounds, walking on the wooded paths, the geiser, Roaring Forks, peaceful boat rides...

We've stayed at both resorts and we love the location of YC with its walking distance to parks. But WL beats the YC when it comes to access to MK. And Roaring Forks is a real counter service restaurant with Mickey Waffles. :). The WL is a gorgeous resort. We love it.

I couldn't of said it better. Same here. Did WL then BC, going back to WL for this same reason.

We have not stayed at WL or BC but this is exactly why I picked WL for next year over BC! :)

As some PPs said, WL is in itself a destination. I have two favorite resorts and WL is one of them. I have to stay at the WL once a year. It just has its own ambiance that no other resort has. The entire place is just gorgeous and the location is nice. I actually like that it's not on the monorail. We like using the boat service. There is nothing like walking the WL boardwalk in the morning or later in the evening or sitting in one of the rockers in front of the 80+ ft fireplace in the lobby. Just booked WL CL yesterday for next May to get my 2014 yearly WL fix in. YC is nice, but I have a feeling you'll love WL!

I think earlier posters have summed it up well, but I thought we'd add our feelings too. We love the fact WL is all under one roof, so you can stay dry in rainy weather. We also really love the view of Bay Lake and the transportation options. Besides the MK boat (which is pretty and fun, although not as fast as the direct bus), we love riding the boat to FW and the CR as well.

Our daughter loves the pool options too, with the large main pool with a slide, a nice kiddie pool, and the quieter hidden springs pool over by the villas. For a young one who hasn't grown into SAB WL has great pool choices.

Here is a picture of our daughter enjoying the bridge that Mousemommy1 mentioned:

She just loves it.

Like others have said, WL just feels like home! Enjoy your trip.

We are trying it out for the first time also in March. And we are HUGE BC/YC (and now after our July visit) Poly lovers!!!

We are really looking forward to trying WL, it's such a beautiful resort!!!

Be sure to catch the water parade/show on bay lake each night. It can be seen from the beach or the boat dock.

:yay: :yay: :yay:
Thanks for all the awesome feedback! I know that I will enjoy the trip because we will be at Disney, but I definitely am going to take note of all the gems mentioned here and see WL. I like the immersive themeing as a big draw because DD is starting to really take note of those types of things - she loved Busch Gardens Williamsburg because she said it felt like we were in Europe (though she's never been) and that she liked that the roller coasters 'hide'.

We had considered CR as a possibility because it was on the monorail, but DH thought the quiet, natural feel of WL would be good with our 1 yo (especially with all the downtime we have built in) and I know the WL pool is more appealing to our older DD.

Thanks to those who shared why you love WL and to the other newbies, I know we'll all come back torn between which deluxe is best :goodvibes

WL is our favorite Disney Resort (Including DLR). We must stay there at least a couple of nights every trip. We skipped it once ... big mistake ... never again. I love the fact that it's kind of away from the other MK resorts.

I've never stayed there either, but we picked it for the convenience to MK. Plus, everyone had amazing things to say about it! I think you'll have a great time. :)

Just did a BC stay. I think I prefer WL. A completely different (did not say better) experience

WL is how I want to build my next home

DH and I will be staying at WL this late Dec/early Jan and we're both so excited. We've been to dinner and breakfast at Whispering Canyon Cafe and I've read that it's a beautiful place at Christmas. I just can't wait to see it myself!!!!!!

A brief stop at WL during the Yuletide Tour is what ultimately sold me on it this trip. The Christmas Tree in the lobby is unreal and the decorations so cozy - we were only there 15 minutes and I wanted to grab a cup of hot chocolate and curl up next to the fire... despite it being 70 outside. You'll love the ambiance and if the other posters are right, the resort itself!

One thing to add, other than WL is our fave too. With girls your daughters ages, one thing you might want to check out is the nice path over to Fort Wilderness. You almost always see some form of wildlife on the path, mostly deer and rabbits. When you get to Fort Wilderness, there are animals for petting and pony rides, and campfires etc. There's also the hoop de doo and the backyard bar b que if you want to add on. You can also rent bikes (with child seats) at the WL and ride over there. :thumbsup2
