We are planning on a WDW trip in June. If one AP pass is bought for the discounts on hotels & other park tickets, it is not guaranteed that you will get the discounts, right? So, one should wait for the discounts to come out then book the hotel with the AP rates & tell that you have a AP, then right before you leave for your trip buy your AP at Disney Store, RIGHT?

Thanks!

I don't have an AP so probably someone else can give you a more detailed answer but I do know that you can book your room without owning the AP. You just need it to check in. I think you want to buy it as late as possible so that you have your full year.

You can book a room that has a discounted AP rate; even though you might not currently have a AP.

You must however have the AP at check-in, this will ensure the AP discounted room rate. You only need 1 adult AP; to get the AP discount. Sorry, child AP will not work.

You can buy the AP at the Disney Store before you leave but you will have to stop by Guest Relations outside of the entrance of one of the 4 parks to have your photo taken.

If you are arriving prior to resort check- in; you can purchase the AP at Guest Relations and have photo taken.

They don't take pictures for AP's they scan your thumb, when you first enter the park.

You will still have to go by one of the 4 major parks prior to checking in and see guest relations there who will put you in the computer as having activated your AP... of course, to do this, you will have to pay the $7 parking fee that day.

Actually, they don't scan your thumb, either. WDWIG has the best explanation for the finger scans done to identify individual annual passholders. Here's the direct link:

http://wdwig.com/fingerscan.htm

WDWIG also has current information on the 2002 perks/benefits of having an AP/PAP. After you click on the above link, you'll see other links to info on the various aspects of APs/PAPs (look on the left side of the page).

Enjoy your trip!

They used to take photos for APs...no longer do that. You can buy your AP at a DS or over the phone with DC or I think on-line (not sure). If you belong to DC you get a 5% dicount. At any rate you'll get a voucher to redeem when you go to your first park. Your AP will be good from one year from that date so there's no harm in buying early at home.

People report having been able to use their voucher at check-in. We have been asked only once to show our AP at check-in. If they didn't accept your voucher, you could go to a park then and then return to your hotel later to complete check-in.

Whatever you do, you will not have to pay $7 parking fee if you go to your hotel to park. From there you can take WDW transportation. I would think attendants at the parks know about the vouchers and would not charge for parking or give a refund after you do redeem your voucher. Don't know that for a fact, though.

Oops, Carol...took me a while to post:D !
