HELP!! Confirmation gift for 14 y.o. Catholic boy

Thank you, thank you thank you for all the ideas. :thumbsup2 I am not opposed to sending a check, but wanted to enclose a gift as well, so it would be more personal. I'll print these posts and take them shopping.

alex9179, your key ring idea might just be the winner. He collects key rings and has for years, so even if he does not use it, he could add it to his collection. I would not have thought of that!

And I appreciate all those who let me know cash was perfectly acceptable as a gift. I wasn't sure.

Another vote for cash! When ds was Confirmed 2 years ago, that was his favorite gift. :goodvibes

DS17 will be confirmed in a few weeks; we are Catholic. I'm not sure how much you want to spend, but I bought each of my boys a share of stock at http://www.oneshare.com/Stocks.aspx as a confirmation gift.

DS23 and DS19 each chose the patron saint of athletes (St. Sebastian) and I bought them Nike and UnderArmor stock. For $10 you can have a plaque engraved, so I put "Congratulations on your Confirmation", the date and an appropriate quote. DS17 chose the patron saint of music (DS is a pianist) and I bought a share of Steinway for him. I found a great Beethoven quote to put on the plaque.

I guarantee they wouldn't be happy with anything religious and it will just sit in their room. The stock is a cool gift and something they'll always have. Otherwise, I suggest cash (and a nice card will make you feel better, but the boys don't really care...)
