Help choosing 5 one credit restaurants!

You mentioned that you love steak and good desserts so for 1 credit I recommend Chefs Le France. You can get the Filet there and it is wonderful just ask them to not put the sauce on it if you are a pure steak lover. Plus the desserts are quite yummy.

Homecomin' after Typhoon Lagoon is a pro-level Disney planning. Absolutely loved doing that. Work up an appetite with lots of activity, and quench it with fried chicken and donuts... which go great together. And wash it down with a cold local Florida lager for the adults. This is the ultimate in vacation in sunny Orlando. That chicken is expertly prepared. Eat the donuts at the same time as a side (not as a dessert), because they're best enjoyed warm.

Boma is, hands down, my favorite restaurant at WDW so far. I realize you said you don't like African food. Actually, to be honest, I didn't really know anything about African food (aside from one dinner at a Moroccan place) until Boma... so I can't speak to Boma's authenticity or how it compares to other pan-African inspired cuisine.

It has a touch of exotic, but honestly, nothing weird to the American palette. No mopane worm, crispy crickets, or poisonous bullfrog braise. My absolute favorite dish is the slow roasted ribs, which are served on Wednesdays and Saturdays. These are meaty, fall-off the bone tender, smoky, and a little bit sweet. I also enjoy the bobotie, which is ground meat, topped with scrambled eggs and a hint of spices like cinnamon, and baked in a casserole. Also they always have a selection of creative soups. You try them all and fill up on soups, and still feel satisfied.

The one credit ADR I am most looking forward to during my first September trip (‘OHana is at end of month) is Terralina in DS. The menu has me excited, especially the gelato sandwich thing for dessert.

I have it booked too! I am not sure the fam will want to go, but I booked it JIC because we needed a DS night and how better than to see it around a good dinner?

If you don't mind we asking, why do you love it so much. For my wife and I, when we go to a Signature Restaurant we expect it to quiet and romantic. In our opinion, CG if the furthest from that. We have been there twice to try different times and each time it has been very loud! So, for us the food is good but not great. I can get better sushi at Kona Island or Kimonos and better steak at Artist Point. I agree CG has excellent views for the fireworks but I think that is ALL it has. For us, we would rather go up to the CG Lounge to enjoy a pre-dinner drink, eat somewhere else, but then return to watch the fireworks afterwards. So people I have read or talk to that love CG because the view of the fireworks. For us, there is more to a restaurant than just the view. For us, the entire experience is important for us and CG doesn't cut it.

However; I will agree with you in that there are as many people out there that love CG as there is as many people that think it is overrated.

CG has never tried to advertise itself as a romantic quiet interlude for diners, it is the opposite. The draw is food and experience.

Because CG is in the category of "Fine / Signature Dining" and when you look at the restaurants in the category, then yes CG does put itself in the group of romantic dining. Similar to Artist Point, Monsieur Paul, Le Cellier, Victoria & Albert's, Narcoossee's, and Yachtsman. I agree the draw of people to CG is the experience....the experience of see the fireworks. But, in my opinion, I don't see the draw to CG being the food. I think the food at CG is good but not great, excellent or exceptional. There are places on property that I believe has better food than CG.

I agree it is not a quiet place and thus one reason I am not fond of the restaurant. In my opinion, to be in the class of "Fine / Signature Dining" it should be romantic as the other restaurants in this list (as already mentioned). The ONLY "signature" about it is the view of the fireworks. In my opinion, as far as fine dining, it is not and I can find better fine dining elsewhere on property. So, for those that love CG, you don't have to worry about me trying to take your ADR.

I think the food is perfect. I get the filet every time and the filet is always perfectly done, melt in your mouth delicious. It is consistently in the top 3 steaks I have had but we don't live in a city area with a lot of fine dining although we have for special occasions. I don't like sushi but my family loves their sushi and says it is the best they've had. They also really like Kona sushi but say it isn't like California Grill. The sides and desserts are also always perfect. There has never been a time I didn't like something on my plate. The service is also always very good for us.

We usually go for a later reservation like at 8:00 or 9:00pm and it isn't that loud as it clears but we have been there at other times and while it can be loud, it doesn't stop you from having a conversation. The view of Magic Kingdom and the fireworks is completely magical to me because Magic Kingdom is my favorite park. My parents ate there on their honeymoon, we ate there for our wedding, and it was my favorite restaurant even at 10 years old going to Disney World. I think it just has the total package from food, atmosphere, service, magical touches, and sentimental value I definitely think it could be romantic especially for someone who loves Disney but I don't need something to be quiet to be romantic.

I like many of your choices. Love Yak N Yeti. Good food and great dessert. I am trying Homecommin this trip too because of the good reviews. Hope not to be disappointed.

Boma is excellent but if you aren't adventurous then it might not be a top 5 for you. They do have sliced meats and other more standard offerings but other restaurants might be better for your group.

Kona next to Boma is also very good. One of our must do restaurants.

At Contemporary The Wave is excellent for our MK day restaurant (do not care for anything in MK).

Coral Reef and Ohana has always been good for us.

Went to Yak & Yeti the first time last trip and loved it.

Teppan Edo is very popular but compared to teppan restaurants near my home its not as good. Near Disney Springs is Kobe Japanese Steakhouse teppanyaki and is far better. Still, people certainly do enjoy Teppan Edo.

When you said your parents got married in the 80's, then I will tell your parents DID NOT eat at California Grill for their honeymoon unless they didn't take their honeymoon until after 1995. Prior to 1995, California Grill didn't exist. The restaurant that was in the spot prior to California Grill was called Top of the World, which was completely different than California Grill. The restaurant prior to the California Grill had a completely different atmosphere, theme, and dining option so not even close to California Grill. Top of the World was a restaurant / nightclub that opened on October 1, 1971 (when the park opened) and closed September 30, 1993. California Grill didn't open until May 15, 1995. For Top of the World, dinner was served at 6:30 p.m. with a show at 8:00 p.m. or dinner at 9:30 p.m. with a show at 11:00 p.m. Growing up as a kid, I remember restaurant / nightclub so vividly because my parents would take me there on every trip and I would have a Monorail to drink (loved the red and yellow).

California Grill was in the same location as Top of the World so it is still the same location with the same views- which is what makes the restaurant feel the way it does to me. It has value to me so I'm not sure why you are arguing with me? My attachment to California Grill is 99.9% from my own experiences there- my parents eating there on the first day of their honeymoon was just the icing on the cake.

It is ok for people to like different restaurants and my favorite is California Grill. Your not going to change my mind.
