DH turns 60 this coming weekend and he has requested Chocolate cake with chocolate frosting:yay: Please share your frosting recipes with me :worship:

Thank you in advance.

I love the one on the "Hersheys Cocoa Powder" can!! Delish!!!!! I have tried the recipe on the Godiva Cocoa Powder can and that one was just "eh" and it was a boiled frosting which was odd. My go to is always the one from the Hersheys can!! :)

I would second the Hershey's one. We've used it many times and we love it! :lovestruc

(your DH sounds like me; chocolate cake + chocolate frosting = :cloud9:)

This is the BEST chocolate frosting, from http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ina-garten/birthday-sheet-cake-recipe/index.html

For the frosting:
24 ounces semisweet chocolate chips
1 1/2 cups heavy cream
2 tablespoons light corn syrup
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
4 tablespoons (1/2 stick) unsalted butter, at room temperature

For the frosting, place the chocolate chips and heavy cream in a bowl set over a pot of simmering water, stirring occasionally, until the chips are completely melted. Off the heat, add the corn syrup and vanilla and allow the chocolate mixture to cool to room temperature. In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the whisk attachment, whisk the chocolate mixture and softened butter on medium speed for a few minutes, until it's thickened.

5 tbsp butter or margarine
5 heaping spoons of cocoa(I use a larger tableware spoon, like a soup spoon that you eat with)
1 pound powdered sugar
Milk

Melt together margarine and cocoa (I do this in the microwave). Add powdered sugar & milk to spreading consistency.

can you believe in 36 years of marriage I have never made chocolate frosting:eek: you are all so sweet to share.

I don't even like chocolate cake or icing, but this is the absolute BEST cake I have EVER had. My sister makes it and gave me the recipe. This is directly copied from the e-mail she sent me:

Cake recipe:

2 1/2 cup all purpose flour

3 cups sugar

1 1/4 cup cocoa

2 tsp baking soda

2 tsp baking powder

1 1/2 tsp salt

(mix all of the above in a BIG bowl) i didn't have a big enough bowl so i used a pot that I make pasta in.

then in a separate bowl

3 eggs

1 1/2 cups milk

3/4 cup veg oil

1 tbl vanilla

(mix together and then put in the dry ingrediants)

then add 1 1/2 cups hot water (I add 1 cup hot coffee and 1/2 cup hot water but I'm sure it would be just as good with just water)

the batter should be pretty thin (maybe thinner than a normal cake batter) and then pour in 3 round cake things (you might have a cup or more of too much batter, that's my favorite part), and bake 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes

let cool before you take out of cake pans or the cake will fall apart.

Icing recipe:

1 1/2 sticks butter

1/2 cup milk

1 cup cocoa

1 box powdered sugar

melt butter on stove on medium, then add milk and lower the temp to low and then add cocoa and powdered sugar and then just stir until all the lumps are out. let cool for about 45 minutes and then put icing on each layer and then poor all the rest on top. put cake in the fridge.

Our all time favorite as well. Only one that comes close is a cooked chocolate peanut butter icing that my mom used to make but I have no idea how to make it.

::yes:: Hershey's. I bake a lot and this is the only one I use for chocolate cake and frosting.

Great with a yellow cake, fudge marble or chocolate.

The only problem with DD celebrating her birthday in Disney is she misses her chocolate frosting.

My sister uses my Mom's recipe to make the BEST chocolate frosting EVER. I found this online and it's the exact recipe!

4 squares Baker's unsweetened baking chocolate
1 pkg. (16 oz.) powdered sugar (about 4 cups)
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter or margarine, softened
2 tsp. vanilla
1/3 cup milk

Microwave chocolate in large microwaveable bowl on high 1-1/2 minutes, stirring every 30 seconds.

Stir until chocolate is completely melted. Cool 5 minutes or to room temperature.

Add sugar, butter and vanilla.

Gradually add milk, beating with electric mixer on low speed until well blended.

If frosting becomes too thick, beat in additional milk by teaspoonfuls until frosting is of spreading consistency.

Another fan here of the Hershey's Cocoa recipe for chocolate cake and fudge frosting. Yummo!!! To me, it's almost as easy as a box mix. The frosting also hardens up and tastes like fudge.

This is extremely similar to my mom's, mom's, mom's, lol. I agree this is the best!!

I make a cake very similar to this called Coca-cola Cake. It is the most moist cake I have ever had.

My fav recipe

1. Go to the store
2. Pick out can of frosting
3. Pay for it
4. Spread it on cake

This is almost like a ganache, as it cools, it gets easier to spread. I love it for cupcakes - because it is runny when warm, I just dip them in and they are frosted (they cool immediately).

Surfgirl's Mom's Chocolate Frosting
-------------------------------------

1 cup sugar
5 Tbsp. butter (can substitute, but tastes better with butter)
6 Tbsp. milk

=> boil them for 1 minute

remove from stove, add:

1/2 cup chocolate chips

stir until chips are melted and then beat until thickens. Putting pan on ice cubes or in cold water hastens thickening - sometimes too fast - when it starts to thicken, work fast or it isn't nice and shiny.
(those are my mom's exact words : ) )
