I'm planning dining for a friend who has never been to Disney. His only request was a character meal for his boys (8 & 10).

I found out that they were going last minute, and that they had NO dining reservations!!! :scared1: So.... I'm helping them out.

Anyway, I was really happy with what I had, but tonight I was able to get Chef Mickey's. Sadly, it is at the same time as the Sci-Fi reservation I already have. I'm a big fan of Sci-Fi, but I'm thinking Chef Mickey's might be a better choice.

Any words of wisdom???

Here is what I have for them:

Teppan Edo
Tutto Italia
Le Cellier
Whispering Canyon Cafe
Tusker House (breakfast)
Sci-Fi (lunch) OR Chef Mickey's (lunch)

EDIT *** See my update in post 7 for another option. THANKS!

I was going to say Chef Mickey's until I saw that you had Tusker...they're a lot of the same characters. So, I'd go with Sci-Fi. Especially with boys that age!:goodvibes

Sci Fi is one of my favorites also, but with the 2 boys Chef Mickeys is the better choice. It looks like you are getting to eat a lot of places they will not be excited about, so another one for them would be good.

You guys sound like the voices in my head...:lmao: One saying Sci-Fi and one saying Chef Mickey's. ;)

I think I'll call them tomorrow and let them choose. But it is so hard to explain how cool Sci-Fi is. :sad2:

I'm sorry! Guess we're not much help...maybe you'll get more opinions! I do think (for what it's worth) that the boys would enjoy enjoy both. I don't think that it's an either/or factor. I just figured that with the characters being much the same, that Sci-fi would be a fun, but different experience....

I have two boys who love Sci-fi...they're 8 and 6.

We just got back two weeks ago and I will not be doing Chef Mickey's again. It really wasn't as good as it was in the past. We did love Sci-Fi and would do it again in a heart-beat. You really do have the same characters at Chef Mickey's as you do Tusker House (we did that one also and liked it alot). Our favorite character meals so far are Crystal Palace and 1900 Park Fare. Have you considered either one of those? A lot of your other meals aren't really geared towards the kids, maybe you could swap one of those out for another character meal. Good luck!!! Your a great friend to plan this for him!! :goodvibes

Thanks so much for the advice! :goodvibes

I think I may have another option...

How about keeping Sci-Fi (no Chef Mickey's), getting rid of Whispering Canyon, and replacing it with Crystal Palace?

What do you think? :confused3

Their trip is in less than 2 weeks, so I'm very limited in what I can get for them.

Crystal Palace with boys that age wouldn't be a good idea....My 8 yr old hides from Pooh and Piglet when they come to our table! Too babyish for him, he keeps telling me!

I agree. Since you have Tuskar I would keep Sci Fi. The boys probably have never seen a drive in theater so this would be pretty neat for them I think.

I wouldn't get rid of Whispering Canyon Cafe. I think the boys would find the atmosphere and activities really fun.

To me having to leave a park and travel to CR for lunch would be the deal breaker. Thankfully we have not had to do CM in a while now as the girls are older. Our last meal there the food was terrible. With a Sci Fi lunch, all you have to do is be in the park, no transportation issues to worry over.

My understanding is that Chef Mickey's does characters for Breakfast and Dinner but NOT lunch.

If you are talking about a Chef Mickey's lunch, stay with Sci-Fi because the characters wouldn't be there.

DH and I had a fantastic lunch at Sci Fi....the atmosphere is awesome and the food was excellent.

We did dinner at CM once and the food was terrible...I would not try it for lunch.

Yikes! I didn't know that. THANKS! Looks like we are sticking with Sci-Fi. :goodvibes

During free dining CM has the characters at all meals. :thumbsup2

I was originally told by a Cast Member that Chef Mickeys does not have characters at lunch but given what others are saying, I'm not sure that is true. It appears that if they are open for lunch, the characters would be there.

There is also another thread on this question. Good luck!

I voted for CM. We love both places and always do both and we have two boys 11 & 7. I picked CM because this being their first visit CM has great character interaction. Maybe you can get another ADR for Sci-Fi. Good Luck.

I vote CM!! I don't know what lunch is like, but we had breakfast there in June and loved it! http://www.expotv.com/videos/reviews/21/188/Chef-Mickeys-Contemporary-Resort-Florid/299139 I have a 9 year old daughter and 2 boys (3 and 6 y/o). Also, with boys that age, if they like dinosaurs, T-Rex cafe in downtown Disney was a big hit for us as well....atmosphere is noisy due to meteor shower show and dino's moving/roaring every 20 minutes, but my boys are big dino fans, so it was a must on our list and the food was good too!
