HELP! Carseat cover needed!

So we're bringing carseats for the kids, but not planning to use them on the plane. I want to cover them, but with what? I just found a carseat travel bag at target.com for $45 (times 2): YIKES!

Is that what I need, or is there a less expensive option? DH was just thinking of using garbage bags, but that seems to flimsy and too easily ripped to me. Help, please! We leave in a few days!

have an extra duffel bag? A large stroller bag.. We packed other items in with our stroller when we checked it as luggage...

I traveled with a car seat at the last minute so I just used 2 of those force flex garbage bags and they worked great. They are the kind that stretch and dont tear as easily. I put one on then tied it at the end then put the other one on the opposite direction. Worked well for me.
I have since since a car seat carry bag at babies r us for cheaper than $45, I think like $25.

You might check Fred Meyer. Its been a while, but I bought one on clearance for $6. I think the regular price was about $12.

We've flown a couple times a year since our dd7 was born and they always have these huge clear plastic "garbage" bags at check in at the airport. Just ask and they will put the carseat in it for you and tie a knot at the top. It does a pretty decent job protecting our Britax Marathon....w/o having to buy a special bag. Good luck!

No they don't . My booster seat once flew back home "naked" because ATA didn't have any carseat bags in Orlando. I lost the arm rest covers and ATA never responded to my emails or phone calls. We now travel with a booster and it goes in a large duffle bag along with the pool noodles and other stuff.

Go to home depot and get the contractor garabage bags (I think they are called contractor or something like that). They are extremely thick and very large. Doubt those would tear.

It depends on which ariline you're flying. Air Canada provides those clear, heavy duty bags that are stamped with their logo. When you check in at their counter, you have to ask for them.

Call the airline ahead of time, and ask if they provide at the airport you're going to.

Also, it is preferable to have the clear bags. Again, I only know Air Canada's policy -- the car seats come out separately (and packed separately) from the rest of the luggage (the large item sections), so they don't get dammaged. I assume if you had your car seat in a dark garbage bag, it might get thrown in with the rest of the flight luggage?

As others have suggested, if it is protections from the elements you desire, plastic bags will work. Some airlines provide, some do not. After flying many, many time both international and domestic, we just bought the $45 bag from Target. It is more padded than the babies r us version, and can be worn as a backpack which makes it easier to transport.

We put the infant seat in there on our recent trip to Louisiana, and it worked great. We took DD (2 year old) seat on the plane to use.
