Help...bottle feeding baby

My sis is visiting Disney World with her kiddos for the first time the week after Christmas. Her 11 month old will still be bottle feeding. She finally had a question on Disney for me that I couldn't answer!

"How should I handle our baby's bottles while I'm down there. She will be 11 months old, probably still taking at least 1 or 2 bottles a day. I can pack the bottles in a big bag with the big can of formula, but what do I do about the water? She uses that "nursery water" made expecially to mix with formula that you buy at the grocery store in big jugs. We won't have a car down there, so I won't be able to drive anywhere to get it. I can't really pack jugs of water to take on the plane. What do you think I should do???"

Any help from you experts??? I've never gone with a baby before!

I would buy the already made formula in cans. If her brand doesn't come that way, I know Similac does, maybe she can have groceries delivered and order the water and formula.

When we took DD when she was on a bottle we would buy bottled water and we bought the individual 2 ounce packets of Enfamil and mixed it in the bottle. To make a 8 oz bottle we just used more 2 oz pacets ( I don't remeber the ratio of formula to water anymore).... The packets are very small and do not take up much room and they are all ready premeasured so all you do is pour in the desired amount of water and then add the packet(s) to the bottle and shake. It was so easy... hope this helps.

Thanks you guys! I just checked with her on what transportation they had from the airport. They have a package with a Town Car service. I might be mistaken, but I thought I read on here one time that those cars will make one stop on the way to your resort?

Here is what I did and my SIL as well in DEC.

It soulds like she is using ME rather than a rental car in which case she can have grocery delivery including specific brands of formula and water. I used wegoshop.com and it was terrific. They shop at regular (not overpriced) supermarkets and charge a minimal shopping/delivery fee. The fee structure is listed on the website. I had it delivered to the AKL and it was waiting when we checked in.

Another alternative is to use a towncar service from the airport to the resort - not free like ME, but with a free grocery stop it can save enough on baby stuff, water and snacks to cover most of the extra cost. I also like this because my kids can use the carseat in the towncar.

At the parks I filled a few baby bottles with water and carried the powder separate. I had a container that held 4 separate portions, each one a single bottle's worth. Then when dd wanted a bottle I just poured the powder into the baby bottle already filled with the water and shook. Since my kids always drank the bottle at room tempthis was ideal. Some of the formulas now come in single serving tubes, pricey but convenient.

All of the parks sell bottled water so getting the water in the park isn't a problem but its expensive but would work in a pinch.

In all honestly I don't think I could manage a WDW vacation with a baby/toddler without a grocery stop or grocery delivery. Not only are the prices high but Disney dosen't offer much selection with regards to diapers, baby food and formula. This way you can get the brands you like at a fair price and have some things in the room for convience rather than having to hit the food court or gift shop for the things you need.

yes - we were typing at the same time. She should be sure and reserve the grocery stop with the town car in advance and let them know she needs baby supplies. This way they can take her to a major chain rather than a smaller specialty chain.

I would probably bring the nursery water down with me if the formula wasnt available in 'ready made', but then I am also the one who actually packed my portable fridge and flew down to WDW with it. It was packed in a duffle and no one (outside of security) knew what was in it.

I would think having it delivered to your room via a shopping service would be a great option.

My sister was with us on our last trip to WDW with her then 3month old son. At the time she was supplimenting her nursing with formula. She brought the powder with her and since we did have a grocery stop with our car service we picked up bottled water to use to make the formula.

Formula, pacifiers, diapers, etc. available at the resort gift shops, obviously at a higher cost. This same items are also availbe at the baby center in the Magic Kingdom. My sister loved the baby center, it was neat with a nice baby changing room, feeding room and a quite nursing room with rocking chairs.

We just returned yesterday and had to bottle feed DD#2 several times during the day. We bought 16 oz bottled water at the store and would bring 1-2 of them with us sealed in ziplock bags in case it leaked. We also put the bottle and the liners in with the water. We were dragging a small can of formula around with us in the diaper bag until I realized it would be easier to take one of her food bowls with the lid (I think it was a gerber bowl) and put formula and the scooper in that. We also put that in a ziplock in case the top popped off (it never did). When she needs to feed her...find a nice shaded bench, get everything out and you're set!!

After your reply, I got to thinking. Don't they also have "baby" rooms. Places to go feed/change the baby outside of just changing the baby in the bathroom?

We just took DS 5 months to WDW and we always use the ready to feed plastic containers of formula anyway., so we took a case with us. In the a.m. we made up all the bottles and then put the bottles in a special bottle bag with an ice pack. In the evening we would come "home" and wash all the bottles so they were ready for the next day. Also the baby care centers are wonderful, you can find formula as well as baby water there to buy, and I got a bag of ice one day from first aid, because I forgot the ice pack. Don't sweat it, if I can do it with a 5 mo old, anybody can!!! It wasn't stressful at all!

I wouldn't buy the ready-made formula for a baby used to powdered unless she's tried it out at home first. My kids seemed to notice a taste difference (and I noticed a smell difference), and my 2nd dd actually got diarrhea when she drank it. For some kids, I'm sure there would be no problem, but your sister doesn't want to find out in WDW that her baby is one that doesn't tolerate the change well.

We haven't taken a baby to WDW, but for other vacations and outings, we always used this container for formula powder and mixed it up with regular bottled water. Even though we used tap water at home, we didn't want to chance it somewhere else where dds' little tummies might not be used to a different water source.

We always bought diapers, formula, etc when we arrived on vacation as they're too big and difficult to take on a plane. If she can't make a stop on the way, she could try wegoshop.com. They delivered milk, fruit, pop, bottled water, etc to our room for about a $20 fee. It was very convenient.

My older daugher actually hid here during Hallowishes b/c she's so scared of fireworks (yet another thing we learned this trip...). They were great. There's always a CM there and while we were there another CM found a lost girl so they had her there. They asked her a million questions and were on walkie talkies talking to other CM's in the park trying to find her parents. the CM with the little girl actually was asking the other specific questions to make sure it was the little girl's parents. The little girl was very happy there. They gave her crayons, played with her....etc. It made me feel VERY good b/c if DD decided to take off she would be taken good care of.

Anyway, the baby stations are great and there was never anyone there when we stopped by.

I was going to say wegoshop also! We always took bottles of water along to the parks to make formula.

Premade formula is very convenient, but it really is different than the powdered. It also stains clothing more, at least in my experience.

The easiest thing is the individual packets of powder, but the divided powder container is great too, and more cost effective.

I don't buy diapers in Florida. We usually bring them from home and use the extra luggage space going home for stuff we buy.
