My DH, DD and I have been to WDW 4 times in the past 6 years and we are even DVC owners. We have, however, decided to change it up this year and want to go Disneyland this summer. However, wow the point conversion stinks and the out of pocket rate is scary--anyone out there stayed in any of the DL hotels and can you convenince me to spend the moola or can you recommend an offsite hotel? (We are spoiled as we have always stayed in deluxes at wdw..)

thanks in advance for your help.....

Anyone can asnswer here or PM me!

Over the years we've stayed at serveral places, on and off site. I prefer the on-site hotels. If you have the points go for the Disneyland Hotel, not as many points as the Grand CA, but still close enough. The Grand CA is like the Wilderness Lodge at WDW.

I thought the number of DVC points required to stay at a DL resort hotel went down recently, so you may want to call MS and check the exact number of points it is per night at the different DL resort hotels. I believe the lowering of points per night needed to stay at a DL resort hotel was to make the DVC sales going on at DL in California more appealing to those on the west side.

If the number of points required is too steep for you, I would recommed staying at the Candy Cane Inn (runs about $120 per night and has it's own reliable and frequent private shuttle to the parks, although it's only about a 10-15 minute walk to the front gates of DL or DCA). You can only book the Candy Cane Inn through their own website. www.candycaneinn.net

If you want to read some reviews on the property, go to www.tripadvisor.com

Disneyland and California Adventure is just AWESOME and MAGICAL! I really hope you enjoy your visit! :woohoo: :yay: :woohoo:

I've stayed in the DL hotels a lot. Even though we live relatively close by (we are in Huntington Beach), it's still great to stay onsite for a weekend so it reallly feels like a mini-vacation. My favorite onsite hotel by far is the Grand Californian. I agree that it's similiar to the Wilderness Lodge (even done by the same architect) but it is a little more luxurious than the WL. It's more like a cross between something like the Wilderness Lodge and the Grand Floridian. I think it's great  The concierge is great because they have scones and cream in the afternoon, which is tasty. I like the courtyard views just as much as the theme park views--at least the theme park views have had a lot of shrubs in front of them so they haven't been really worth the price difference to me. But anyway, we stayed at the DL hotel once but found it kind of like the Contemporary (not my style), but I was pleasantly surprised by Paradise Pier--very convenient, in great shape, and nice, comfy rooms. Anyway, as far as prices, we get the best through our APs. I don't know how long your trip is for...it might be worth it to purchase an AP to qualify for discounts--however, the AP discounts aren't always offered so be sure to ask ahead of time. There is also a good senior citizens discount (my step-dad stays for about 50 percent off) and some good CM discounts (my cousin works at DL and gets some good hotel rates). Other than that there is always travelocity and expedia that have DL specials....hope I'm helping! I definitely think it's worth it if you've never been!
