Who wants a challenge? I need a place to stay LOL.

After booking a SHOCKINGLY great deal for airfare ($500 RT TOTAL including having to pay for seat assignments and baggage) for my family of 6 for MONDAY, I am scrambling to find somewhere to stay. We will arrive Monday around 5 and leave at 9 on Thursday.

We honestly don't even know if DH will be able to come with us yet (LOL) so answer as if I will be alone with my 4 kids (3,5,8,10). We go lots of places so I am not worried, however, it is a consideration.

I prefer to have a little extra space, 'cause there is a lot of us, but it is a short trip so we can compromise but a somewhat equipped kitchen is a must since we will always eat breakfast and will likely pack lunches.

I do plan to spend one of our full days at a beach (probably gulf side but will depend on weather). We are not doing parks.

1. I booked Orange Lake Resort as an option at this point but I can still cancel by 6p tomorrow with no penalty. I am paying $150ish a night for a total cost of $540. Is that good?

2. I have been looking for more detail on Orange Lake Resort and it seems AWESOME, but they nickel and dime you. I can see that there are fees for LOTS of stuff, but when you click on the link for cost, it only takes you to the pass which at $46/person...we will not do! CAN you pay a la carte for the tubes? Will I even want to for my 5-6 family members? I KNOW my kids will want to do the lazy river, are there options for going in there without a tube...although not so lazy! What else do you have to pay for? I'm a little concerned this is going to add up quick...

3. I am going to call magicalvacationhomes tomorrow and see if they will break their minimum night requirement for a condo in Windsor Hills but we will see if they will.

4. I am a total failure at VRBO. If I send to 10 people, only 2 will respond and that is to say their calendar is wrong.

5. I would be okay with a lesser hotel (but I can't seem to get too much lower than the $150 for our family size anyway) and opt to go to Aquatica but I'm concerned my age gap will cause me problems there. I am not comfortable letting my older two roam alone but watching from afar is ok if that makes sense. Any thoughts on that? They are running a $30 ticket deal right now.

6. Totally spin, I am actually okay with not even staying in Orlando if we can stay near a beach, but see #3 and our flight is early on Thursday so we at least need to stay Wed night in Orlando. If you have ideas though, I'm open.

7. I have a rental van for $114 from Alamo for 3 days...good?

Thanks if you made it!

Jen

HI there, We LOVE OL, heading there in 21 days for 2 weeks. NO you do not need to spend any extra. You don't need a tube for the lazy river, you can do it just as is. We don't buy the play passes. I am sending you a PM. Please take a look.
Thx

I sent you a private message about getting the play passes.

Have you tried Homeaway or Flipkey? I have had great luck with both of those. I checked your dates and there are several pool homes available. I love pool homes over condos. They are bigger and have more room to spread out and most come with their own pools and child supplies like high chairs and strollers. Many also have game rooms. If you don't mind farther out like Davenport or Clermont, there are some really great buys.

Just checked Hotwire & the Clarion Suites Maingate has your dates available for $272 total for 3 nights.(including resort fee) Once in the site, I put in for 4 kids & 2 adults. It says it includes breakfast & suite has a fridge & microwave. It also stated that the suite has 2 queen beds & 1 pullout sofa. I haven't stayed here before...but sounds like a bargain for a short stay!

An Embassy Suites would be a little tight, but doable. Sleeps 6, free breakfast, afternoon snacks/drinks, and very affordable. Definitely under $200 if you stay at the South location in Orlando with the free parking.
