We haven't been to either and wanted to go to see the Animal Kingdom Lodge. I made reservations for Boma first (I had never heard of Sanaa) then I read you could see the animals from Sanaa. We are family of 6. No one is extremely picky, but I do have two 12 year olds that might not like anything too different. I just wanted your opinions on both places. I know Boma is a buffet which would be a plus for everyone trying new things. Is the atmospher of Sanaa worth it? And is the food served fancy, my family just wants a good meal with fun atmospher. Thanks Dis for all your help!

We loved Sanaa. Haven't been to Boma, but we are returning to Sanaa in March. The food is tasty but not spicy. The atmosphere is very nice but not too fancy. If you go, start with the bread service. It's really tasty, as are the dips. If people like fish, the sustainable fish is very mild and served in a broth. The steak seems pretty non-adventurous too, but I haven't had it. My DH had the cornish hen and loved it. I've heard good things about the selections with gravy as well as the tandoori chicken, but haven't had them (yet). Both of my kids ate off of the kids menu. They each had the meaty macaroni and HUGE peices of chocolate cake for dessert.

Both places are good and worth a visit, but I think Sanaa is definitely better. The food is really outstanding. It's nice and simply presented, but not fancy. It's meant to be a somewhat casual restaurant, there is no dress code or anything. The atmosphere is calmer and more intimate at Sanaa, and watching the animals is really neat. They have plenty of non-spicy options, and the things that are spicy are served mild. You can ask them to make the food hotter if you'd like.
The kids menu has some very basic familiar fare on it. I'm sure they would let you kids order from that if nothing on the regular menu appealed to them.

Boma is nice, but it's buffet in a large open room, so it can get quite loud and boisterous. There are more choices at Boma and the food is pretty darn good, especially for a buffet, but for me, Sanaa is tops.

I would definitely recommend Boma (although I have never been to Sanaa). The buffet has excellent choices, and the kids buffet is great too. The food is amazing, and the service was great too. Boma is one of my favorite restaurants!

We enjoy them both but I think Sanaa is better. I have dined at almost every WDW restaurant and IMO, Sanaa, is the best 1TS restaurant at Disney.

Both great in thier own way. i agree that Boma will be louder than Sanaa. There are many more choices obviously at the buffet. One item that was not mentioned was the presence of activities at AKL around sunset including traditional African stories and a fire pit. i don't think you are gauranteed the view of animals as Sanaa (depends on seat location) but there was an observation area very close to the entrance. So either one will be fine. if you think folks will have excess energy I'd say Boma and just walk to the other side of the pool for the obervation site there or up the stairs to the back of the hotel for the critters there. If noises sometimes put folks off or you want quieter time hit up Sanaa.

we've done both. the kids prefer Boma...they think the Sanaa food is "weird" and they like getting "normal stuff" at Boma.

i loved sanaa!!!

Thanks everyone! Although my husband and I would probably prefer Sanaa, I think we are going to go ahead with our Boma ressie since we've never been their either. I will just feel better knowing the kids will have plenty of choices. :)
