I'm not the best one to answer your question as I am something of a junk yard dog of food. Boma is one of my favorite restaurants on property and my absolute favorite buffet. While they serve some uniquely African flavored dishes (one of the stews is fantastic), they will have some of the more standard items, a nicely cooked salmon, chicken, "sides" (that doesn't do the food justice) and great deserts. If you want to see some of the recipes, there is a thread of all WDW recipes, indexed by restaurant at http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1575103
Boma has really good prime rib. It also has some pretty plain roasted potatoes and the ever present mac n' cheese. I have seen people go to Boma and eat nothing but plate, after plate, after plate of the prime rib. The salmon is really good, but it does have different spices.
I do believe that prime rib has been removed from all buffets at WDW which is unfortunate because I did love it at Boma.
The chicken at Boma is pretty spicy; the picky eaters we took as our guests this year did not like it at all. They said the same about the ribs; too spicy.
Both of our guests ended up eating from the children's section and seemed happy with that.
Its all a matter of how picky they are. I consider myself picky, and love boma. Seasoned meat is just meat. Soups are soup. Salads are salad. I think you get the idea. There's nothing crazy on the buffet. All their dished could be made with a trip to walmart. Its a dumbed down, americanized version of African dishes. Now if someone refused to try something just because it has a funny name, thats just being stubborn. Someone can be picky and love boma, as long as they are at least a little adventurous.
