DD10 recently got contacts and is doing very nicely with them. She's been invited to a pool party and without contacts, her vision is pretty cruddy. I've heard various things regarding wearing contacts in the pool. What do you know about it?

Would it be okay if she wore them but took them out just after getting out of the pool? She might have to put in another pair for the remainder of the party so she could see. :rotfl: Or is it okay to leave them in for an hour or so after getting out of the pool? :confused3

We wear our contacts in the pool all the time. According to my eye doctor it's okay as long as we're wearing googles underwater. If I'm just playing around with my head out of water I wear sunglasses, which protect from occaisionally splashing.

I've had contacts since I was 13 (I'm 42) and I've always worn them in the pool. I can't see otherwise.

My girls both got contacts when they were 11 (they are pushing 14 and 12 now) and they wear them in the pool and the ocean. You just have to be careful not to open your eyes under water or one could get washed out. Wearing goggles helps but isn't necessary. Have an extra pair on hand just in case. :thumbsup2

None of us has ever had a problem from wearing them in the pool (although I did lose one in a pool at a party when I was around 16 - lol) and we've never taken them out after swimming, just at bedtime that night as usual.

Well I wear extended wear Oasis and I have never had a problem swimming.

I wear them in the water, even open my eyes underwater - no problem. I do carry drops and just give them a couple after I get out.

Oh I do bring a back up pair just in case. I have only had one come out ever. That was in the Bahamas after I was pummeled by a HUGE wave.

I wear mine, I dont go underwater or splash around like kids probably will. I would take an extra pair in case something did happen.

I wear mine and I'm usually fine. She should definitely bring an extra pair and her glasses (if she has them!), just in case!

DS wears his in the pool. He can't see without them. When he was younger, he's an adult now, he would wear goggles. Now he does not. Word of warning though, the Dr said she has seen some terrible eye infections if pool/lake water gets under the contact and the contact is not cleaned fairly soon. If DS swim, he makes sure to take them out that night and clean them before he goes to bed. He wears the 30 day, you can sleep in them, kind of contacts.

I wear mine in the pool, and use goggles if I want to open my eyes under water.

i wear mine in the pool, i just keep my eyes shut underwater. i miss being able to open them, but i don't want to lose my contact either.

I swim with my Night & Days all the time. I don't really give it much thought--they've always been fine.

I wear my contacts in the pool. I don't see why she'd have to take them out after getting out of the pool.

I wear my contacts in the pool and ocean all the time. I keep them in when I snorkel or it would be pointless for me to go snorkeling at all as I wouldn't be able to see :fish:

I'm blind without my contacts (or glasses). I wear my contacts in the shower, pool, lake, ocean. I just don't open my eyes underwater. I've gone scuba diving with them.I've had contacts since 6th grade and never had a problem.

I wear mine, I dont go underwater or splash around like kids probably will. I would take an extra pair in case something did happen.

Me too. For over 25 yrs now.

FYI, its really difficult to identify your family or friends at beach or park when you can't see and everyone is just wearing skin & skimpy bathing suits. ;)

I've worn my in the pool for 20+ years, DD has worn hers for about 5 years. We both open our eyes, haven't lost a contact yet. We do take them out in the evening after swimming and clean them. DD does occasionally wear goggles, mostly for swimming laps, not for diving, playing around.

Mine would pop out if someone splashed me-so I wear sunglasses and dont go underwater

Maybe have her wear googles?

Both my DDs (13 and 10) are on a dive team. They can't wear goggles while diving, but do wear their contacts without any problems.

I have been told tht contacts are fitted to you eyes in such a manner as to make it fairly impossible to float out of your eyes. Wear 'em.

Ihave worn contacts for ever and never knew this! wow, this will make life easier :)

I wear daily disposables so no worries if I lose one.

DD, age 13, does not like dailies, but we have some just for swimming.
Have the optometrist fit the kids for daily disposables (I wear Focus Dailies but DD has a different type) just for sports, sleepovers and other times when you don't want to mess with solution.

Works really well here.
