HELP! - AP Renewal and $15/month AP ???s

Two questions, both related to the Annual Pass.

I hate to admit it, but I've let my annual pass expire, along with the thrity day $99 renewal grace period.

This is a question for the quantifully knowledgeable or our inside friends. Has there ever been any case of Universal allowing a loyal AP owner to renew at the $99 rate after those woeful 30 days have passed? What if I was willing two wave two months off the AP to compensate for the time since it expired (in other words, program the card as if I renewed it back in June, just never used it until now).

And then, as a plan of contingency, does anybody have all the details on the $15 monthly payment AP deal? I can't seem to find any reference to it on their website at all. Does it have to be purchased in advanced? Can I do it at the gate?

I'm jones'n and need my Universal fix. I have an opportunity to take a quick detour there coming up (the first time in about three month that I've been able to afford it) and really hate the idea of paying $60 (yes, $60, that’s what it's come to) to get into a park that I've been practically getting into for free for the past two years.

Anyway, if anybody can help me, I really appreciate it. (I leave on my trip Monday morning, the sooner the better).

I am currently doing the 15 dollar a month deal for the AP. I went to the gate and told them I wanted to buy annual passes at the 15 dollar a month rate deal. You are charged the first month right away. Every month on that date you are charged for a year. I filled out paperwork with the credit card number I wanted to use on it. They gave me copies of my paperwork to get through the gate. I then went to vacation services and our family had our pictures taken and they gave us our annual passes. It was that simple!

A couple more question you may be able to answer. Do I have to pay for the first $15 at the gate with the same credit card that they will charge me every month, or can I use cash? Also, do you know if I can pay for a couple of month in advance at the gate?

I let my AP expire too, WAAAAAAA!!!!!

When I called I was told its $180 to renew!!!

This must be something new, I let my AP's expire before and I didnt have a penalty or anything, I could alway renew at the $99 amount. Live and Learn.

BGT has a similar plan but you should know that the reason they do this program is because they can collect their monthly dues even after the year expires. Your card will probably be billed monthly even after the year is up. You will have to call to cancel. That is what I had to do with my BGT/SW gold pass. I cancelled and renewed a few months later to avoid paying for those months I wasn't going to be visiting.

I just got back. I am once again a proud annual pass holder. It's strange, but I do feel different. More accomplished!

Anyway, my quest was fairly easy. I went to the customer service window outide the park and told them I wanted to renew my pass. They told me that there was no problem renewing it at the $99 rate as long as I understood that the year will still expire in June, which I obviously didn't have a problem with.

He said that they ususally say renewal can only be done within a month before or after the experation date because most people want their new year to begin from when they pay.

So I don't think anybody else should have a problem with this.

I hope they don't implement the annual pass policy that Disney has, which is to automatically have your pass renew when the old pass expires, so the clock is always running. Because of this, we have not renewed our annual passes with Disney, but we have renewed our annual passes at Universal because we live in Massachusetts and we don't want to the clock to start ticking right away....

what about getting the 15 month power pass? It's a great deal. There really aren't a lot of black out dates.

We let our APs expire, because we were not going back to USF for almost a year. We still have a few vouchers left, but we picked up one of the 15 month power passes. It was $109, but as CPM said, the blackout dates are not too bad.

I hate that they started the renewal date like Disney does.

But as long as they have ways around it, it's not too bad.

I have a questions for you guys. I have the AP at the 15.00/month rate. When my annual pass expires will they let me pay 99 to renew or will they keep billing me 15.00/month. I would much rather renew at the 99 rate. Thanks for your input.
