Help Any other Grand Floridian-GV posters excited about their stay?

Well we've arrived at the GF and checked in. The staff here are uniformly wonderful so far.

Only one glitch and that was quickly fixed. We had requested Conch Key first choice then Sago Cay, a high floor. The first room we were assigned was Sago Cay 5416 which was facing the monorail (which I didn't really want but was actually kind of cool BUT was also facing the parking lot and what looked like several portable toilets....apparently there is one GV room at least that does not have a great view! I went back to the check in counter and spoke with the gentleman who checked us in (he had been wonderful -- it's my daughter's birthday tomorrow and he made a big fuss over her and gave her a birthday button). I explained the situation and asked if there was anyway we could get another room, any building, any floor just not a view of a parking lot and the portable toilets. He went into the back office and came out with someone whom I'm assuming was a manager -- she was wearing a different uniform anyway. I explained the situation to her and she went to a computer and spent a good 10 minutes looking for another room. She then asked if we absolutely needed the daybed. I said no, definitely not. She then assigned us to Boca Chica, a wonderful dormer room overlooking the quiet pool and the main building. Everything very pleasant, no stress at all they were happy to try and accomodate. The bellman who delivered our luggage was one we had run into in the elevator in Sago Cay and remembered us. When I explained why we had changed rooms he just nodded and went "oh the back of the convention center view..."

Sago Cay has not been refurbished and neither has Boca Chica. But both interiors are beautiful. A few signs of some wear and tear. The bottom of the tv armoire is a little banged up (probably from the maids vacuuming). The laundry hamper the wicker is a little broken on top. Other than that it looks wonderful. No problem getting extra towels and hangers (they had them up her in about 10-15 minutes). Internet connection is nice and quick, and they charge 9.95 for 24 hours.

We grabbed a quick bite at Gasparilla's: good counter service food, layout and flow not great. They only had the YOMD refillable mugs BUT the minibar had both the Alice in Wonderland and the Captain Hook ones. I chased down the minibar lady and got two more so we all have them. We're waiting now for DH to arrive -- he's in the Navy -- been deployed and is getting a week off and joining us. First time we've seen him in 4 months!!!!

Dinner tonight at Citricos tonight. If anyone has any questions let me know and I'll do my best to answer.

Sounds great so far - so glad the front desk was able to find you a more desirable room. :thumbsup2

And "welcome home" to your hubby - at least for a short while. Please thank him for all he does for our country.

Enjoy your dinner! :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

Disney Planner Momma, have a great stay and enjoy this special time with your husband, how wonderful. Be sure to take a night stroll on the beach!!

Oh how special!! What a birthday present for your daughter! I have tears in my eyes thinking about it! Please thank him for all his (and your) sacrafices for us! Have a very blessed, magical trip and if you can, snap some pictures!

And OK, I am not requesting Sago now. I definitely would get the toilet view!:rotfl2:

Disney Planner Mama...have a wonderful time!!!
So glad you got the mugs!!! My kids still love them!

We are VERY excited to be staying at the GF...It is my 2nd time staying there and I love it! The hotel is beautiful and it is great staying on the monorail!Too bad we have to wait until October...we are staying in Conch Key...but I stayed in Sugar Loaf last time and it was great! The restaurants are fun and there are several character meals there! First stop on the monorail...MK! Awesome! Good luck!

Thank you everyone for your kind wishes! It's absolutely wonderful to be with DH. Had a wonderful birthday dinner for DD5 at Narcoosee's last night. The food was fantastic, best prepared seafood I've had in a while and fantastic service. We are having a great time -- we've rented one of the cabanas this afternoon, having a leisurely day today!

I will post pictures as soon as I figure out how to download them into my laptop.

Just so you know you can't book Conch Key, you can request it, but considering this if the only building finished at this time with the new rehabs; the requests for it are very high.

Just did not want you to be disappointed if you don't get it.

Does anyone know which building will be finished next? We're staying at the GF in late October (I can't wait!). I didn't request a specific outbuilding and I probably won't, but I'm curious. We're garden view and have a monorail lover. Any suggestions? I was afraid of getting the back of the convention center view:headache:

We had a great view of the monorail and the marina from a GV in Conch Key.

We are going Sep 20-24 and I rented a cabana for $60.00 from 10-2 (or you can rent it 3-7) if you want it all day 10-7 it is $110

EllenEc,

Hi, Just wanted to let you know that the Cabana's, if I recall correctly, are $60 for a 4hr time slot, either 10-2 and I think 3-7 (or was it 2-6).

We rented one for our upcoming visit in September you can do this in advance by calling the recreation office. I think the number is 407-WDW-Play... that is from memory so that might not be right.

Enjoy your trip and do tell us about it.

Best,
