Help Any other Grand Floridian-GV posters excited about their stay?

We have it noted, but I am really not expecting anything. I am going to have a cake sent to the room one evening. If they want to do anything special (like upgrade my view ;) ) I am all for it, but I am just tickled pink to be back at the Grand after all these years!!

We aren't expecting anything either, but it would be nice to get even a happy anniversary greeting or something. Either way, we are celebrating our marriage and our children, so we don't need anything too special to make that a happy ocassion. We are very excited to be staying here, and this post has helped me get more psyched up! I am really glad I started it! I really was getting depressed with all the concierge experiences which I knew we would not see nor could we afford all the extras. So I am glad to hear plenty of great posts about great GV stays!

I am not the original poster, but I have to thank everyone for their replies!

I am really looking forward to our stay now. A few days ago I was considering staying at the Vistana instead, but now I am very excited to stay at this lovely resort.

Boy, am I excited! We're going August 29-Sept. 3rd, GV rooms (we're AKL refugees) and we're really looking forward to it. :thumbsup2

I would like to get one of the rehabbed rooms; does anyone know which buildings have had their rehab completed?

Conch Key is the only building complete at last check.

Have a great trip!

For garden view, I'd definitely recommend Sago. The gv's are either on the side of the building that overlook part of the back lagoon and the monorail or they overlook the marina and you might even get a glimpse of the MK from those rooms. Here's what I'd say in my request:

Sago, marina side, higher floor

Sago is close to Gasparilla's Grill and the marina where you can watch Wishes. It's also close to the Main building but it seems a little remote and quieter. There is a "secret" path to the buses if you cut between Sago and the Main building.

Have a Happy anniversary!

Thanks for the tip. We are going in November and I am really excited. We always wanted to go there. :yay:

Just let me say that the GF is what you make it. That goes for your vacation as well. If you go expecting to feel not equal to the other guests then perhaps you need to rethink your destination. If I could get a 40% off rate with a GV only, you can bet I'd jump at the chance. Concierge is nothing but spending money you really don't need to spend. Most of these people plan their on trip, restaurants and gifts because that's what they do. No big Whoop!!!!! Relax, enjoy you stay no matter where you decide to stay. It beats every day life doesn't it????? We all need our get away.

I just changed our ressies to the GF! First stay for us, and I'm already getting excited about it, and was especially glad to have read this post with the room request suggestion, which I did use. The CM mentioned the room refurbishing to me, but did not know which buildings would be affected at the time, of course. I'm hoping that if it turns out to be Sago that we will get an upgrade to RPC!!!!:lmao: Wouldn't that be sweet for our first stay?!

Oops! Just noticed that I quoted the wrong post!! What I meant to quote was the post that mentioned requesting Sago Cay, upper floor, marina view...sorry for any confusion!

staying at GF 1st week october with my kids and parents and i went once before as 16 yr old--loved it then and will love it now---i pretty much ignore others and i stay in the moment--the moment i'm having!!!!! it really is a treat to stay there--my 4 yr olds will just flip!!!!!

...and we are staying in the GV--i didn't request anything special..the whoel trip will be great and we won't be in the rooms too much-i don't care much about the food or rooms to be honest--just being in disney is fabulous enough!!!

Original poster here! Just want to say that I received another post card yesterday (sorry, I don't mean to rub it in) and called and got this lovely CM who was very helpful in telling me "DON"T MOVE YOU IDIOT". I promised the DH that I would call to see if we could get a "better" deal with the GF and he wanted to know what it would cost for WL since that is where the kids want to stay. The CM was so funny as she was saying, "well I guess we can try and see if there IS any room somewhere else". She was saying she could always tell me there was no where else just so I didn't feel guilty about telling DH! But she did look it up and with the new PIN code I could stay at the WL for exactly 55.60 MORE than staying at the GF for the same dates, same package. :rotfl2: I started laughing and she said I could check the POLY if you like, but I am guessing that will cost a bit more too!

I said, No thank you, I am HAPPY to say that I am staying at the GF with a GV room! I am so happy now that I am settled on the GF and that all of you are so positive about your stays too. Looking forward to it so much now! And we got our MVMCP tickets ordered too! :thumbsup2

OOPs. I just realized I had that nice CM and I didn't request a building. I hate to call back and get a grumpy CM, that makes me feel like I am asking for too much. Do you think I will be fine wherever they give us? I really would like a view of the monorail, so I guess I better call back and ask for Sago!

Your family will be GLAD you are at the GF over the WL. :thumbsup2 The rooms are larger, the location is better, turndown is nice, lots of things about the GF are better - that's why the rack rate is higher..... I think that 40% off is the best deal around. It isn't something I'd give up. You won't see those rates again. The GF is decorated so great for Xmas, too - the kids will enjoy the gingerbread house and the music in the lobby.

I requested Sago months back when I made my ressie, but honestly there is not a bad building. It is well laid out and I would be happy with any we get. Just wanted Sago for convenience to Gaspies and the marina for Wishes viewing. :thumbsup2

Happy planning!!!

Lives4Disney :)

Thanks Lives4Disney! I only hesitated with Sago because I thought it might be under rehab at that time. But I guess it can't hurt to ask! I was just thinking a rehab room might be better. I was kinda hoping Sago would be done by then, but it doesn't look like that may be the case! I read over on the other thread that they were moving furniture out of Sago, Did I read that right? If so, does that mean they stopped rehabbing, or they just aren't using that building right now.

Oh and one more SILLY question. How do your pronounce SAGO? Is it SAAAAGo or SAHHGO. I know, but I don't want to sound like an idiot on the phone! Thanks!

Just wanted to tell the OP thanks...!

All this talk about the GF...I kept coming back.....and I booked part of our trip next year...yes..at the GF:)
Thought I should wait til we got back from this upcoming triip...but , noooooo!!
GF this and GF that....lol....
So I have a GV booked..requested Boca or Sago. We loved Boca Chica but wouldnt mind trying another bldg!
We will be coming from Vero Beach....the only thing I can see happening is that DH may like YC more! Darn than ESPN across the lake!! lol

Cmbar,
Hi! We're from MD too! We're also staying at GF GV for the first time coming up on the 29th. We've always thought it was too snooty for us, but we want to try some other resorts. We originally were supposed to stay at BC for our anniversary on the 2nd, but we had to cancel and the only thing I could get was GF. I also said I would never go to WDW in August, but here we go.

I'm looking forward to it!

The standard rooms at the GF are 440 sq. ft. (dormer rooms on the top floors of the outer lodges are a tad smaller with cathedral ceilings and solid-walled balconies). These rooms come with 2 queen beds and a daybed.

I have always been confused by the square footage number. UOG says that GF rooms are 440 sq. feet, but everywhere else I read that the rooms are actually 400sq. ft., making them smaller than Poly rooms.

Are only certain rooms 440 sq. ft.? I know that the dormer rooms are smaller.

TIA!

Thanks for starting this thread the other one is just to overwhelming.

What room should we request for early Oct?
We have GV as we are doing a Land/Sea Package.
I think we would like a newly renovated room.

Oh I hope you have a fantastic trip! The pools at the GF are supposed to be so nice and maybe not so crowded! We were at WL in November and couldn't find a seat at the pool, so I am looking forward to maybe a little more space at the pool. Disney in August, well that is a challenge for us northerners! Just stay cool and think, no long lines for a bus when the MK closes!!

I guess you don't have kids in the school system as most of the counties start back on the 27th! Hope you enjoy some small crowds at Disney!

Right now the only Garden rooms finished are in Conch Key.
