A friend has won a prize package with a trip to Universal Studos in Oct, so I am trying to organize a Disney trip kinda late in the game. We are looking to book a room at AKL, and we need a type 1 accessible, with the grab bars in the bathroom. The travel agent has blythly assured me we don't need to make any special requests, because ALL of the rooms have grab bars, but I think she doesn't know what she's talking about. Can anyone who's been there advise me? Are ALL AKL rooms type 1 accessible?

its been a while since i was there but form what i remember ther where no grab rails in our room, we had a savannah view queen with bunks for the kids. So i wouldn't be able to say what the accessible rooms would be like.

Thanks, that kinda answers my question. I thought a travel agency (Small World Vacations) would help be get things done a little faster, but she tells me she can't do ADRs, she can't get me Cirque tickets (can't even tell me if any are available) and there is no need to ask AKL about accessible rooms because EVERY SINGLE room is accessible. This kind of bad info and stress I don't need.

I would call the special requests line and talk to them. I do not believe that they are all accessible. I do know that you can call housekeeping and ask for a shower bench and hand held shower if you need them.

I would suggest that either you (1) switch travel agencies if possible, or (2) talk to either the owner or a manager at the agency you used and switch agents; you might also discuss the competency (or lack thereof) of the agent.

Unfortunately, if the reservation was made through a travel agency, the travel agency "owns" the reservation and someone from there needs to call the special requests line, the OP cannot. (I'm not sure if this is true for things like ADRs as well, I just know it is for things like accessible rooms)

I want to second CheshireFigament's suggestion of seeing if you can get someone else at the travel agency to deal with your reservation. Alternatively, it's not clear to me whether you're going as part of what your friend won or if you're going down separately to be there with your friend. If it's the latter, can you cancel your reservation through the agency and book for yourself? That way you know you're getting what you need.

Good luck!

Yes, PLEASE contact the owner!!!! There's contact information on their website (smallworldvacations.com), she does respond, and this is NOT typical SWV Agent behavior!!
