I have a reservation for 5/31 thru 6/7 at the BWVs. We have rented points from a DVCer to stay there. Now, I plan to use the UPHers because of our early arrival and late departure times. I called the DVC member services (since that is how my reservation was made) and asked to "add" UHP's to my ressie and asked if I could buy them now. I was told that "No, just present your member card at check-in to get your 10% discount on them then." I told him that I was a guest of a member and we would be checking in at different times, to which he replied that I would just have to buy them at full price at check-in.

Help....any way around this? I know it's not a huge difference in cost...but every nickel counts, right?

Also, I have heard that many "point renters" get lucky and get the 10% off their tickets anyway since the desk clerk doesn't always ask for a membership card. Anyone with that experiece??

Thanks.

KT,

I'm in the same predicament as you are. The individual from whom I am renting points indicated that his brother received the 10% discount in the past at check in, despite the fact that he is not the DVC member.

Sounds like its something that just cannot be controlled. Some CMs ask for the actual ID card at check-in, while others may not.

I figured that if they ask me for the ID, I may just try the old "my wife must have it" route and see where it gets me. :D

The frustrating part is that it's not like I'm trying to pull anthing over on them. The advance purchase and Disney Club ticket discounts on the Ultimate Park Hoppers is just about the same as the 10% DVC discount, but Disney reservations won't let us purchase the passes in advance since the reservations are through the DVC. In fact, the only reason I renewed the Disney Club membership for 2003 was to save on the UPHs, only to later find out that they won't let me purchase the passes.

I've been a member for 6 years now, and through many trips I have never been asked for a membership card at checkin. In fact, I don't think I have ever used my membership card at all. Once checked in, your room key will say "DVC member" on it. Whenever I'm in a situation where proof of membership is needed, I show my room key, and that's all it takes.

No need to worry.

Like Jimbo, I've never shown my DVC card at check-in. In fact, I've never brought it down to WDW:D :D . We never get the UHPs because we're not in the parks every day during our stays; we therefore prefer the regular hoppers.......

DH and I have APs, but last May we took a group of guests with us to OKW and they used our discount to purchase UPH passes at check-in. The desk people did ask for our card and for our ID to make sure it was us.

This past October we took another group of guests and purchased UPH passes at check-in at BCV and they did NOT ask for our cards. Seems hit or miss as to whether they do it or not.

Technically only the member when staying in the unit can get the discount but for the entire party. I've heard of many getting the discount when the member wasn't there and don't recall anyone being denied the discount on the basis of not being the member. I'd just ask for the passes and discount at check in and hope it happens. The more you check with them ahead of time, the more likely you will not get it. Besides, guests or renters are not supposed to call MS and discuss issues with them, yes I know it happens sometimes.
