We fly out to WDW 2 weeks tomorrow and today my DS (aged 13) has broken his wrist! He is a temporary plaster and will be having something more permanent put on next Tuesday. My question is will he be allowed on rides while he has a cast on his arm or if they put a lighter splint on it. he is really fed up at the thought that his holiday may be spoilt so any advice anyone can give would be welcome.

I do not believe there would be any restrictions placed on him by WDW..... you may worry that something might be too rough for him and cause him pain.. we always do as parents.. try and go and enjoy... :)

we saw a brit family in 2001 with a child who had a cast on his arm.. they said that they had done more or less everything except the waterparks!

He probably can swim! My daughter broke her leg a couple years ago - two days before we left for DW. We bought (actually had it delivered to our hotel) a water proof cover for her leg. I cannot remember the name of it but I believe it ran ~ $40. It creates a vacuum around the cast and water cannot enter.

I found this information on the disabilities board. Try searching over there or post a question if your interested.

Thank you for your help. I feel much better now.

My DS also broke his wrist this summer while away at camp. He was lucky enough to get a relativley new kind of cast that is made of gortex. It was "water proof", so he was able to do all of his normal activities - including swim and shower with it on! The cast didn't keep from doing ANYTHING - well, except make his bed once he got home! But he did everything from the climbing wall, to playing gameboy. It was nice too because it never got smelly and he said it didn't itch either. Maybe you could ask his Dr. if that type is an option for your DS? Just a thought - I'm sure he'll do great either way. Have a wonderful trip!

If you're thinking of doing Sea World, you'll have a problem with the coaster (Kraken sp???) They have signs up saying no casts. But that's the only ride I've ever seen saying that.
